Totally Accurate Battle Simulator is a grotesque downloadable game which is an original battlefield simulator. The players have the opportunity to participate in military clashes with a variety of units where the physics engine plays a major role. The purpose of the game is to win the battles, and because the combat is quite unpredictable, it requires proper tactics.
Totally Accurate Battle Simulator has been created by the Swedish Landfall Games studio. The company is known for producing not only original but also crazy titles such as Clustertruck or Square Brawl.
The full version of the game is expected to be available by the end of 2017. The download of the free open alpha version is possible on Landfall Games website.
The Mechanics of Totally Accurate Battle Simulator
TABS can be compared to the Total War strategy games. The players take part in battles using various units. The goal that the creators of the production have set is to win all the subsequent skirmishes. The gameplay consists of two stages. The first stage is the selection of units that will then be sent to the battlefield, and the choice of formation that these units will create. The whole process takes place on a two-dimensional tactical grid. The soldiers are marked with white squares. The infantry, archers, spearmen and shield bearers, as well as the heavy units such as ballistae, chariots, and guns, can be used. Also, you should remember that there is a limit to the number of soldiers you can command. You can have only as many as you can buy with the gold you have.
The second stage of the game takes place in a three-dimensional environment. Here you see how the planned combat tactics work in practice. Here the player doesn’t have a direct influence on the course of the fight. He can only observe the battlefield and the action.
The Modes in Totally Accurate Battle Simulator
At TABS, you can play alone or with friends. In addition to the set of predefined fights, there is also a sandbox mode. There the players can create their own armies and match them against each other.
The Technical Issues in TABS
The graphics in the game are very simple but all the fights are played out in a full 3D environment. The in-game physics are based on ragdoll technology. This leads often to hilarious situations. For example, the catapult crew can be fired together with a missile, and the soldiers who attack an enemy army can trip over their own comrades. The main features of the game that the producers are proud of are the following:
- true historical campaigns
- 10 factions
- over 60 units
- two completely different game modes, first-person battle mode, and strategy in top-down view
- unit creation wizard
- sandbox mode
- funny animations
