The Game Review

Drawing inspiration from a variety of games, including Nintendo’s Smash Brothers franchise and Capcom’s Dreamcast game Power Stone, Brawl Stars gives players the chance to participate in ranked matches with other players from around the globe in one-on-one combat.

Players are ranked according to level and the total amount of trophies they have won in the game. Matches are then decided according to this hierarchy.

To get new fighters, or “brawlers” as they are called in this game, players collect them and then select one of their collected avatars to put into the arena.

There are 22 brawlers in total in the game, including eight League Reward Brawlers, three Rare Brawlers, three Super Rare Brawlers, three Epic Brawlers, two Mythic Brawlers, and three Legendary Brawlers. Except for League Reward Brawlers, all others are obtained via a loot box system called a Brawl Box.

The designations in front of the various brawlers indicates their level of rarity, with Legendary and Mythic capping it off on the top of the pile.

Supercell has enabled multiple ways for players to obtain Brawl Boxes including via tokens or gems. Like many games of this type, Brawl Stars rewards engagement as much as it does purchases and encourages a healthy, vibrant community through engagement incentives.

The game offers nine unique game modes which include the non-ticketed events, Bounty, Brawl Ball, Gem Grab, Heist, Solo Showdown, and Duo Showdown as well as the ticketed events, Robo Rumble, Boss Fight, and Big Game.

Supercell has also added event modifiers to give players even more options as to how they play this title, totaling some 30 unique ways to play the game in total.

The Game will likely tickle your nostalgia bone with its graphics which can best be described as a mixture of retro/throwback and cartoonish charm. Reminiscent of a Wii U game, Brawl Stars has a unique, almost anime aesthetic that makes it stand out in the quality department.

Of similar quality are the sound and animation. this is a well-made game in addition to being addictive and compelling a rare package in mobile games.

Music and sound are similarly well done if not a little bland at times. But, given that this is a mobile title, it is more than serviceable.

Gamers should enjoy Brawl Stars simple yet addictive gameplay as well as its compelling ranked match system.
