The Nintendo Switch has a truly amazing library of games. I feel that Luigi’s Mansion 3 is one of the best games that the console has to offer in 2019. Luigi once again has to embrace his inner ghostbuster as he tries to save the day (and this large hotel) from a bunch of ghosts!

The Game Review
The first thing I have to say about this game is that it is actually very funny. I love the humor they have in this game, from poking fun at the Virtual Boy to watching Luigi get scared over everything. There are not many games that can match Luigi’s Mansion 3 when it comes to pure charm.
The story does take a while to get going. However, the basics are Luigi, Mario and Peach go to stay in this hotel, the owner is a ghost, people go missing and Luigi needs to save the day. It is fun stuff and the writing is amusing, but as I said I do feel it could have got going just a tad quicker.
This is a fantastic looking game. The characters look amazing and their animations really do bring them to life. I really like how varied the rooms and areas of this strange hotel are too. Just when you think you have seen it all a new kind of ghost or a strange new area will grab your attention.
This rings true for the gameplay too. While catching ghosts, solving puzzles and getting money is what you will be doing. Luigi’s Mansion 3 does a great job of keeping things fresh. The ghosts often require you to change your tactics up so that you can startle them and then capture them. Which by the way is a ton of fun when you slam them around.
Introduced in this game is Gooigi (I can hear the Gooigi for Smash chants now) who is a jelly clone of Luigi. You unlock Gooigi a few hours in and he is pretty awesome. You can use him to get to areas Luigi cannot and also to solve puzzles. Best of all a second player can take control of him and you can then play in co-op.
The overall gameplay is a lot of fun and you may think that it would play like a 3rd person action game. That is not the case and it controls kind of like a game that uses a modern version of tank controls. These do take a moment to get used to, but eventually, you will get them down and they become second nature.
I love the progression of the game. The early floors of this hotel feature pretty straightforward ghosts, bosses and puzzles, but by the later floors, you will be really tested. I was actually very impressed with how the game was not just “for kids” and poses a fun and fair challenge that will really test you.
There is even online play here too! You can jump online to play with other players in the ScareScraper mode which is for four players. Blowing through a floor of the hotel, running against the clock and trying to capture as many ghosts as you can is way more fun and satisfying than you would think.
As of right now, Luigi’s Mansion 3 is easily one of my games of the year. This is a fantastic game and one that poses far more challenge than you would think. It looks like a million bucks and the writing is very witty and very funny, especially if you are a Nintendo fan.
