Overcooked! 2 is a top-down, quick-paced puzzle cooking game and is the sequel to the original Overcooked from the same developers over at Ghost Town Games. The game is set to be released on the 7th August 2018 for PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One. The Game Review

With Overcooked! 2, there is no story in the game. The developer has gone on record to say that each level is designed to tell its own sort of story, but there is no specific reason or motivation behind the player’s actions for playing, unlike other games available as of right now to players.

Since the game’s name is Overcooked, it should come as no surprise that the game focuses on the idea of cooking. Along the top row of each level, there are a series of recipes that the player and their co-op partner (if they choose to have one) must create to successfully finish the level on time.

Depending on the level, though, there are a number of different obstacles that arise throughout the level and while it may start off simple, it eventually starts to become a little more complicated the deeper into the game they get. For instance, on some levels, the ingredients might be on one side of the map, and on the other side is all of the tools and equipment the player needs to make any food out of them, all the while they’re moving around at random intervals.

Gameplay, for the most part, is pretty simple. From a top-down perspective, players must run around the level, picking up ingredients individually and putting them to good use. They can be moved around the level, placed in convenient places until when they’re needed most.

The ingredients for the recipe may need to be cooked or chopped up and depending on the item, it will have a small, 5-second timer until they are complete. Once all of the ingredients have been accurately and correctly cooked and collected, they can then be combined into the recipe, bringing the player that much closer to completing the level and moving onto the next one available.

Aesthetically, the game has a rather cutesy, colorful, and vibrant visual style to it that isn’t really like any other and makes it that much more enjoyable. Both young and older ages are bound to find something they enjoy about the art style with this game.

Overcooked! 2 is the ideal sequel to a great puzzle game that anyone who enjoyed the original is going to love the follow-up. Now that the game has online functionality, this co-op focused game is going to have even more reasons for people to pick up this fun and frantic title, without ever having to worry about being in the same room just to play it with someone.
