Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

Man, do I have a treat for you guys today we talk about Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. This is close to being my favorite game in the franchise, there is very little between this and Uncharted 4 for me. Originally released on the PlayStation 3, The PS4, Nathan Drake Collection is the best way that you can experience this masterpiece of a game.

The Game Review

Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune was great, but Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is epic. This is a cinematic masterpiece that once again has us in the shoes of treasure hunter Nathan Drake. Once again, he is joined by Sully and Elana from the first game, but we also get the feisty Chloe Frazier along with the ride this time around and she is one of the best characters in the entire franchise.

The plot of the game is like something from a huge budget movie. It sees Nate and his pals on the hunt for something called Cintimani Stone and the lost city of Shambala. Also looking for this is a crazy dude called Zoran Lazarević who is one very bad and tough customer that is willing to do whatever it takes to get what he wants, even leveling a whole city just to get to Nate!

The gameplay was refined from the first title to near perfection. You have to remember this is a PS3-era game and the gameplay still holds up to this day. The shooting mechanics in particular are much better than in the last game. There is always plenty of ammo around, but Nate can throw it down with his fists when the time calls for it too.

Oh, this game is packed with cinematic-style set-pieces too. I am having a hard time off the top of my head thinking of an action game that has more exciting and mind-blowing set pieces than Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. I know this is a cliché people say all the time, but this really does feel like you are in the middle of an epic action movie.

It was not just the gameplay that Naughty Dog improved upon with this sequel. The presentation of this game is just phenomenal. The locations Nate and his friends travel to are much more varied this time around from jungles, war-torn cities, snow-covered areas, and more. Each area that you travel to never outstays its welcome and you are always excited to see where the game will take you next.

We do also have to talk about the incredible voice acting that this game, actually this series has. You know, I have not thought about this until now, but I think that the Uncharted series has the best voice acting of any game. The music score here is movie quality too and fits whatever scene is going on at the time perfectly.

The Bottom Line

I would say that Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is arguably the best game on the PlayStation 3 console. This is just a masterpiece of game design and a game you have to play. The Nathan Drake Collection for the PlayStation 4 is just such a great package, I suggest you get that and play through all three games in order.
