Hogwarts Legacy

Even though I am a casual Harry Potter fan at best, Hogwarts Legacy is a game that I was still excited to try out. This is an action RPG that is set in the wizarding world of Harry Potter and many fans are saying it is the best Harry Potter game to date. Sure, there was controversy with people saying they were boycotting the game, but the fact of the matter is that this has been a huge critical and commercial success.

The Game Review

The setting of the game is really cool, it takes place in the 1800s a very long time before Harry’s story came to be. The main setting of the game is Hogwarts and we play as a student. While Hogwarts itself is massive, you are not just confined to there, The Forbidden Forest and Hogsmeade Village are just a couple of the other iconic locations you will be able to explore.

Before you start your Hogwarts Legacy adventure, you get to create your character. I found the character creation suite to be a lot of fun and very easy to use. I liked picking my house (I went for Hufflepuff) as each house offers a different take on the story. I went for Hufflepuff as a buddy who is a hardcore Harry Potter nerd suggested I do so!

One thing that I thought was really cool, but I probably did not appreciate as much as a true Harry Potter fan was the way it immerses you in this world. You are pretty much free to explore Hogwarts, chat with students, look for secrets, go to classes, and take on many different missions. It is a typical action RPG structure but wrapped up completely in the world of Harry Potter.

Even as someone who is pretty ignorant of the source material, the story of powerful magic that is coming back and needs locating before it falls into the wrong hands was enjoyable. The combat in the game as you would expect is done through spells and you can learn various spells in the game, you can even mix and match spells to come up with cool combinations.

I always felt like there was something to do in this game. Be it following the main quest line, going to a class to learn something new, or taking on a side quest. The game is packed with content and if you plan on 100-percenting this game, you are certainly getting your money’s worth here.

The way that Hogwarts Legacy handles NPCs is really cool. Chatting and building a relationship with NPCs will make them come on quests with you and also lead to new dialogue being spoken which I am sure will make this even more appealing for Harry Potter die-hards.

The presentation of this game is stunning, again, I am a casual Harry Potter fan at best, but I was blown away by how good this looks. I have been to the Warner Bros Studio Tour for Harry Potter in London and it was cool to see how authentic this game looked to the real thing. The people who made this were clearly huge fans and took making this thing very seriously.

I can only imagine how amazing this game must be if you are big into the Harry Potter franchise! It is certainly the best Harry Potter game I have ever played, although to be fair the LEGO games are awesome too. I had a lot of fun with this and I could see myself playing through it again as a different house at some point.
