A Goofy Movie

I would have to say that Goofy is probably my favorite of the Fab 6 (or Fab 5 if you prefer) and I loved the TV show Goof Troop back in the day. What we have with A Goofy Movie is an extension of the TV show and it is a lot of fun. I would even say that after watching it again recently, the movie holds up, although my feelings are quite different than when I watched this as a kid

The Movie Review

Goofy is trying his best to raise his son Max right. Goofy is an awesome dad and I would go as far as to say he is the best dad in all of Disney! Max, on the other hand, is a typical teenager, just focused on what he wants and he just sees his loving dad as a major embarrassment.

It is quite interesting to watch this as an adult. When I watched this as a kid, I kind of agreed with Max, but now as an adult and a dad myself, I really do feel for Goofy in this movie and it kind of makes me like it even more. You can see how much Goofy loves his son and the dynamic between the two, while hard to watch sometimes is fantastic and a major highlight of the movie.

The plot of the movie is kind of a road trip movie. Max and his two buddies PJ and Bobby have Max performing as music superstar, Powerline on the last day of school! They get in trouble, but Max loves the attention he gets, especially from Roxanne, a girl at school that he has a major crush on.

A Goofy Movie Trailer

We see Max and his friends make plans to go to a big Powerline concert in California and even Roxanne is going to go! Goofy throws a spanner in the works as he remembers a bonding trip that he and his dad took when he was a kid and plans the same trip for him and Max.

Max is devastated, but he hatches a plan to get him and his dad to California. Look watching this as an adult, Max is kind of hard to like, but you can see where he is coming from. He is a teenager and acts very much like one. I give Disney a ton of credit for the way they portray Max here.

While he can be very selfish and hurtful towards Goofy, you still feel that Max has a good heart. As this is a movie about Goofy, there is a lot of slapstick humor at his expense, but it never takes away from the heart that this story has. At the end of the day, A Goofy Movie is a movie about a father and son and one of the better ones I have ever seen.

I know it may sound silly to someone that has not seen this, but this is a truly wonderful movie. You may wonder how can A Goofy Movie have a lot of heart and be a real family drama? With fantastic writing and great vocal performances, that is how! I would probably say that I like this even more now as an adult than I did when I was a kid.
