Man, I have an awesome day today as I get to talk about the epic Battlestar Galactica series from 2004. I grew up watching re-runs of the original series with my dad and loved it, but this series is just superior in every single way… hey do not hate me, I still like the original, but the 2004 Battlestar Galactica is one of my favorite shows of all time!

The Movie Review
I watched Battlestar Galactica when it first aired and loved it, I got the DVD season sets as they were released and watched it again them. However, it was during lockdown when I watched the Blu-Ray version of the series that made me realize just how much I freaking love this show. I am sure that when I eventually do a fourth re-watch I will like it even more.
This is sci-fi at its best! Taking place deep in space, humanity lives mostly in peace in a place that is called the Twelve Colonies of Kobol. This is a series of planets that have tons of humans living and working together. I like the premise of mankind colonizing the stars and living on a bunch of different planets.
However, things have not always been great. Mankind has been at war in the past with a race of android beings called the Cylons which were created by man! I love the Cylons and would put them right up there with Stormtroopers as far as sci-fi villains go. Of course, there is more to the Cylons than just being androids that want mankind destroyed, however no spoilers here.
Anyway, Cylons launch a surprise attack that devastates the Twelve Colonies, billions of lives are lost and only a few thousand manage to escape on a few ships. Most of the ships are not battleships, but one is, the Battlestar Galactica! The first few episodes are so well done, kind of like a movie and the series, I felt just got better and better.
Humanity is making a journey through the stars to a distant little planet called Earth where they can hopefully find a new home. It is honestly great stuff and the kind of show that is even better to watch now as you can binge watch it. I do feel that some of the special effects, especially those that are CGI heavy have dated a bit, but for the most part, the show still looks good.
It has lots of great sci-fi action and is very exciting to watch. However, I feel that it is the characters and the fight for survival that makes this such a fun show. Even though I knew what was going to happen, that last watch I did of this got me excited and had me pumped up, shocked, and worried about stuff that was going to happen!
There are not many sci-fi shows that are better than Battlestar Galactica in my opinion. It is four seasons long and under 80 episodes so it is not a massive commitment. I will say that if you pick up the Blu-Ray set, it has some fantastic special features that show you how the show was made and go into the lore of things more and I found that just as entertaining as the actual show.
