If you grew up in the 80s and even the 90s, the Beverly Hills Cop movies are probably something that you are very familiar with. I am writing this after, Axel F was released and I can honestly say that I think this is a series where all of the movies are great. Beverly Hills Cop II takes place just a few years after the first movie and it offers more of the same, but I mean that in a very positive way.

The Movie Review
In LA, Billy Rosewood, John Taggart, and Andrew Bogomil are working hard trying to crack this “Alphabet Crimes” case. What is happening is that a series of big-time robberies are happening and at each crime, a letter is being left, kind of like a clue or a calling card. It is a case that our three cops are trying their best to crack, but this is easier said than done.
You see the Beverly Hills PD has a new police chief who takes a disliking to the three. They end up getting in trouble and Bogomil is caught in a trap and nearly killed. One thing that I think Beverly Hills Cop II does really well is setting things up, you learn very quickly that these villains are not to be messed with and that the stakes are very high.
Axel Foley’s Return
Of course, Axel Foley hears about the shooting of Bogomil and heads to LA to lend a helping hand in a way that only Axel Foley can. What we get are a bunch of wisecracks, awesome action scenes, and even more of that great chemistry between Rosewood, Axel, and Taggart that makes this series so fun, how can you not love Billy Rosewood?
A Fun Sequel
This is just a really fun movie and if you love the first, you will love this. I think I do kind of prefer this just a little over the first movie, but there is not a great deal in it, to be honest with you. What they clearly did with Beverly Hills Cop II is take what people liked about the first movie and just did more of it here and that is more than ok with me.
Yet, on the flip side of that, I can see why some people may feel that this is a movie that plays it a little safe, and apart from the case they are working on, the tone and style are very similar to what came before it. That is not a problem for me, but again, I can see why it may be for some folks. Also, if that first movie did nothing for you, first of all, you are crazy, but in all seriousness, if that first movie was not for you, this will not be either.
Timeless Entertainment
Beverly Hills Cop is a franchise that I just love. The original trilogy is something that I have gone from VHS to DVD to Blu-Ray and hopefully, finally 4K! I just love these movies so much, they are always a fun time. While it is great to watch them in order, they are also the kind of movies where I can just fire a random one up and have a fantastic time with it.
