I am going to start this by flat-out stating that Bridesmaids is one of the greatest comedies of all time and an absolute 10/10 movie for me! Directed by Paul Feig (The Heat, Ghostbusters), written by Kristen Wiig, and produced by Judd Apatow, how could this not have been awesome? While Bridesmaids is a hilarious, dare I say gross-out comedy style of movie, it has a ton of heart and characters that are easy to connect with and like.

The Heart and Humor of Bridesmaids: An In-Depth Review
The movie centers around Annie who is played by Kristen Wiig. Annie is a talented baker who had to close her bakery and take a job she hates working in a jewelry store. She lives with a couple of weirdos in the brother-and-sister duo of Gil and Brynn. Her only “romantic” aspect in her life is a douchebag-rich dude who just uses her for sex. To say that her life is not great is an understatement.
However, Annie has a best friend called Lillian and they have been best friends since they were kids. Lillian is played by the ever so talented Maya Rudolph and she has amazing chemistry with Kristen Wiig. Lillian is getting married and she wants Annie to be her maid of honor and Annie could not be any happier about this.
The Rivalry and Friendship Dynamics in Bridesmaids
That is until Annie meets a new friend of Lillian’s called Helen. Helen is played by Rose Byrne and I am a huge Rose Byrne fan, but this is honestly some of her best stuff. Annie and Helen do not like each other from the start and they are both jealous of the other’s friendship with Lillian.
The two constantly butt heads over what should be done in the run-up to the wedding and while this is happening, Annie feels like her life is falling apart. The rest of the bridal party is awesome with Melissa McCarthy as Megan, Lillian’s future sister-in-law, and Wendi, Ellie Kemper as Becca, and McLendon-Covey as Rita.
Iconic Moments and Unforgettable Laughs
There are so many great moments, the most iconic has to be where the entire bridal party ends up with food poisoning just before they have to try on dresses. This scene never fails to make me laugh and cringe and I have seen it a million times! There are just so many funny moments in this movie, you could easily make a top ten!
Finding Love and Redemption
While there is a lot of humor here, Bridesmaids as I said has a lot of heart too. Annie finds a nice guy in the Irish cop Nathan Rhodes who of course is played by Chris O’Dowd. They have great chemistry and you can just tell that they would be perfect together, but Annie is in a real downward spiral and cannot seem to get out of her own way.
Even Helen who at first you think is just a total bitch and the cause of Annie’s meltdown and problems has a lot of depth to her. You have these two people in Annie and Lillian who have been best friends for so long that you legit wonder if they will patch it all up and remain besties or if have they simply grown apart.
The Enduring Legacy of Bridesmaids
There are not enough good things that I can say about Bridesmaids. I saw this in the theatre back in 2011 and I have to have watched this at least once a year since then and it never gets old. This is the kind of movie that can always put a smile on your face, make you laugh, and also leave you feeling all good inside when those Wilson-Phillips credits start to roll!
