It took me a while to watch the first season of Chainsaw Man. From the images I saw, I thought this was just another, violence first, all flash, not much-substance kind of anime. Boy, was I wrong! I got super into Chainsaw Man, and when I heard that Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc was coming and it was a direct sequel to that first season, I was very excited. Hell, I even got a movie poster for my game room before I saw and knew for sure I would like the movie.

The Movie Review
Yes, Chainsaw Man is flashy, violent, and completely over the top, but I would argue that the story of Denji and his pairing with the Chainsaw Devil, Pochita, is one of the best any anime has to offer. Denji is a character who is very easy to get behind. He is, for the most part, “a normal guy” who wants to meet the right girl, have a good life, and so on. It just so happens that he is also a devil hunter who turns into Chainsaw Man when he pulls the cord on his chest.
A Love Story Wrapped in Blood and Blades
What makes Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc so great is that at its core, I would say that this is more of a love story than an action one! Hey, do not get me wrong, there are some very over-the-top action scenes in this movie. However, it really does get you in the feels, and the ending at first legit had me feeling so bad for poor Denji!
Great Character Moments and Emotional Weight
I am not going into spoiler territory here, as the story took a pretty unexpected turn that I did not see coming. We get a little back and forth with Denji and Makima as they go to the movies, and you can tell that there is something there between the two. This is all done very well, and to be honest, if these two did get together, I would not be against that one bit, as these are two characters I like and would love to see be happy.
The Reze Connection
Well, as is the case with poor Denji, things get out of control pretty fast. Denji meets a cute girl called Reze, and they have a pretty instant connection to each other. Denji and Reze get to know each other better. I loved this aspect of the movie. Reze and Denji are a perfect fit, and while I wanted this to be something that lasted. I just knew that something would come along and throw this relationship into peril.
A Brutal Battle With Emotional Stakes
Things take a massive turn, and before long, there is the emergence of a Typhoon Devil who is causing just chaos. That is all you are getting out of me as far as the plot goes! We get Denji and the rest of the crew trying to save all those that they can from this devil, but the personal toll that it takes on Denji is pretty damn heartbreaking, I will not lie. Still, it does fill you with a bit of hope for Denji.
A Must-Watch Anime Movie
I truly loved every moment of this movie! Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc really was just a fantastic movie, a movie that I honestly cannot wait to see again! If this had not had such a limited run at my theatre, I probably would have gone and seen it again there. Sure, I am kind of still high on this as I write it, but this is one of the best anime movies I have seen in a very long time.
