I do not think that 1988’s Crocodile Dundee II is as good as the 1986 original, but this is still a fun time. It is kind of crazy how big a deal these two movies were in the mid to late 80s. They just came and went, but they certainly left an impact, which I can say for certain as I annoy my wife and son multiple times a year when they ask for a spoon or knife and I do the whole bit from Crocodile Dundee and The Simpsons parody of it!

The Movie Review
Paul Hogan is just so brutishly charming as Mick. He is a tough guy with a heart of gold and he is impossible not to love. Crocodile Dundee II takes place a couple of years after the first movie and Mick and Sue are living a good life in New York. It is nice to see that these two characters we grew to like in the first movie have been doing so well together.
A huge part of the charm of that first movie was Mick struggling to figure out the customs and people of America. Not much has changed in two years as Mick still has a bit of a tricky time navigating how things are done in New York. I will say that I do feel, Crocodile Dundee II takes a little bit too long to get going.
Mick’s Rescue Mission
You see, Sue ends up getting some photos of a big-time drug cartel from her ex and this puts her in the sights of the cartel. The cartel takes her hostage and Mick has to make the save. It is here Mick has the great idea to take Sue to Australia where he says they will be safer. I like the idea of this, but it feels like it takes too long to get here, once they are in Australia, the movie is way more fun.
It is here Sue finds out that Mick actually owns a bunch of land in Australia, including a gold mine! The cartel needs to put Sue down so she cannot reveal what she knows so they follow the pair to Australia. We basically have this cartel trekking through the outback, being picked off by Mick as they go, there are certainly some fun moments and the scenery is fantastic and it does make things a tad more exciting.
Comparing to the Original
It is a very similar kind of movie to the first one, but just not quite as good. I feel that the attraction that Sue and Mick have here is good, but actually seeing that attraction grow in the first movie was better and more interesting. They are still entertaining and likable characters, but there is just a little bit of the spark missing here.
I am not someone that would say Crocodile Dundee II flat-out sucks, but it is certainly not as good or as fun as the first movie. I can still have a fun time watching this, but I would much rather watch the first movie. It is not like I would watch the first one and then be desperate to watch this straight after either. They had lightning in a bottle with the first Crocodile Dundee and they just could not replicate it here. Hey, at least it is a million times better than the terrible third movie!
