Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles

Not too long ago I reviewed the first Crocodile Dundee and talked about how much I loved it. I then reviewed Crocodile Dundee II which is not as good as the first movie, but also not terrible either. Well, they well and truly went to the well one time too many with 2001’s Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles as this movie is pretty bad!

The Movie Review

The thing with Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles is that this is a textbook example of a completely unnecessary sequel. I have no idea what anyone who made this was thinking of. It is awesome that they got Paul Hogan and Linda Kozlowski back as Mick and Sue, but I wonder if just a straight up reboot may have been better.

There is no denying that Paul Hogan as Crocodile Dundee had a ton of charm in the original movie and even in the second one. However, this time, there is just something off about the performance. The spark and magic are gone, it is almost like it is someone else pretending to be Crocodile Dundee if that makes sense.

In Australia, Mick and Sue are living with their son, Mikey, and have a good life, but with crocodile hunting being illegal, Mick makes a living by wrestling them instead. Sue gets an offer she cannot refuse from her dad to be in charge of a newspaper that her dad owns and the family packs up and heads to LA.

Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles Plot and Characters

In LA, we get the usual Mick trying to fit in, but this time he has his son Mikey getting in on things. It is fun seeing Mikey at school, but the charm of Mick being confused by the US customs has well and truly worn thin by now. For some reason, Mick and Sue hire Mick’s rival, Jacko to look after Mikey while they are working which makes no sense! The actual plot of Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles is what really drags this down.

Why a Crocodile Dundee movie revolves around stolen art is beyond me. That is no joke, Mick is working as a PI and ends up getting pulled into a conspiracy where these stolen priceless paintings are being used in a movie to be smuggled. If it sounds boring and lame in comparison to what the two movies offered before it, that is because it is. I found myself so bored while watching this movie, it is not that it is horrible, it is more that it is just so boring!

Final Thoughts on Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles

That first Crocodile Dundee movie is an 80s classic and it is a movie that I feel holds up very well to this day. While not as good as the original, even Crocodile Dundee II had some charm. Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles came along a decade too late and the fact that the movie is just kind of soulless makes it a very hard movie to recommend. If you are in the mood for Crocodile Dundee, watch the first two movies and give this one a miss, trust me you are not actually missing anything by doing so!
