Like most people who are fans of The Simpsons and Futurama when I heard that Matt Groening was working on a new show for Netflix, I was very excited. Disenchantment first aired in 2018 and as I write this it has four seasons with a fifth one being worked on. It is a decent show and one that I need to get around to watching again at some point.

The Movie Review
The fantasy setting of the show is really cool. Our main character is a 19-year-old princess called Bean. Bean is awesome, she loves to drink, fight, cause mischief, and more, but she has a good heart. However, there is some kind of deep dark secret inside of her that starts to become more of a thing as the series progresses.
Bean is joined by two main companions. First, we have Elfo who is freaking hilarious, he is a bit of a dumbass, but he loves Bean and joins her on her adventures. The first promo shots I saw of Disenchantment showed off Elfo and I thought that he was going to be the “Bart” of this show as he looks like him, but his personality is very different.
They are joined on their adventures by Luci who is her personal demon that tries to encourage Bean to make poor choices, but Luci along with Elfo has a lot of character growth as the series progresses. Like his other shows, The Simpsons and Futurama, Disenchantment has a stellar supporting cast.
I think that Bean’s dad, King Zog is awesome. King Zog is a big fat selfish oaf who is married to Queen Oona and together they have a kid called Prince Derek who is half human half amphibian type creature. I like the whole family dynamic that we have and despite his many selfish decisions, Bean for the most part loves her dad and brother and will help them if needed. I love the whole thing with Bean’s mother, but that is all I am going to say about her as it is a major spoiler!
Disenchantment is a very typical Matt Groening-type show, but I think that it is more like Futurama than it is The Simpsons. The humor here is a bit more adult and there are some great jokes and running plotlines that keep you invested as the series progresses. There are contained to episode elements, but there is more of an overall season-long arc here than with The Simpsons or Futurama.
The way that the show looks is cool and it has that Groening style, as I said, Elfo looks very much like Bart and the show has his style all over it. The fantasy kingdom is great as it let the people behind the show get very creative with the different lands that Bean and her buddies travel to.
While I have only watched Disenchantment once, it was a show that I liked. I will admit that at first, it did not grab me, but the more I watched it the more I enjoyed it and I am excited for the fifth season. I think if you do like stuff like The Simpsons and Futurama, Matt Groening’s humor and style will also win you over here.
