I have to say that Dora and the Lost City of Gold is a movie that is far better than it has any right to be. My son grew up watching Dora and Diego so I knew that we would get a kick out of this movie. I feel that the movie is made as much for the parents of kids who watched Dora as it is for the kids themselves.

The Movie Review
The director of the movie is James Bobin and he is working from a script that was written by Nicholas Stoller and Matthew Robinson. The cast of the movie is great with Isabela Moner playing Dora and just being an absolute delight. Other notable actors in the movie include Michael Pena and Eva Longoria as Dora’s parents and Jeff Wahlberg as Diego.
Now, in talking about the cast we are about to get crazy here. In this movie we have Danny Trejo as Boots and Benicio Del Tor as Swiper… that is awesome! They do a great job at voicing these characters, I just wish there was more of it. To be fair, if there was more, perhaps it would not have been as awesome as it was.
The Dora in this movie is not the little kid from the series, she is 16 years old and she has been living with her mom and dad along with Boots, looking for treasure. Dora is sent to live with her family, including her “cool” cousin Diego and she has to try and navigate the jungle that is high school.
You may think that this is where the movie turns into a dumb high-school movie, but it does not. Well, it kind of does, but the humor and the way that Dora is more like a 10-year-old than a 16-year-old and this is actually pretty hilarious. Dora is joined by Diego and some other kids in Sammy and Randy, Randy was awesome and was pretty much my favorite character in the movie by the way.
The actual plot of the movie sees Dora and her high school friends being kidnapped and they are taken to the jungle where her parents are trying to find the hidden Inca city of Gold. They plan to use the kids as a way to force her parents to help them get the treasure. The movie is an absolute riot and I get that it sounds dumb, but it has a ton of heart and even more laughs.
If you grew up watching the show or had kids who did there is a section that will legit make you laugh out loud. I know this sounds like a crazy comparison to make, but I got some major Goonies vibes the whole time I was watching this movie, mainly from the relationship between the kids. I watched it with my wife and son and we have a great time.
As I said at the start Dora and the Lost City of Gold is a movie that is far better than it has any right to be. It was entertaining from start to end and that is very impressive. This is a movie that could have quite easily been eye-rolling garbage, but everyone involved did a tremendous job to make it a fantastic family movie.
