As I write this Hawkeye is the most recent of the Marvel, Disney Plus TV shows that tie in with the MCU. Hawkeye is a little different in that it is a mini-series and as far as we know, there are no plans for a second season. It brings back the criminally underrated Jeremey Renner as Clint Barton and it is a whole lot of fun!

The Movie Review
Clint Barton is on vacation in New York City during Christmas time with his kids. They are having fun and he is trying to make the best of this family time that he has. Early on, we get to see that he is having trouble with his hearing and also with being seen as a hero by the people in New York City.
There is a great scene early on when he is enjoying a meal with his kids. He goes to pay and the guy in the restaurant says it is taken care of as thanks for him saving the city. It is clearly something that Clint is uncomfortable with. He is scheduled to go home with his kids for Christmas day, but in typical Marvel fashion, something goes wrong.
The Ronin, a badass character from Endgame, a persona that Clint felt he had buried comes back to haunt him! His Ronin suit ends up being worn by Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) and she ends up in a whole heap of trouble. A high-ranking gangster whose father was killed by The Ronin, Maya, thinks Ronin is back and will stop at nothing until she has The Ronin’s head!
Clint being the good guy he is, agrees to stay in New York to help clean up the mess that Kate has found herself in. Kate Bishop is one of the most likable characters in this current phase of the MCU. Hailee Steinfeld is just awesome in this role, so good you could not imagine anyone else being in it now. She and Clint have such a great and fun relationship that it is impossible not to get invested.
Ok, so Clint trying to save Kate from the “tracksuit mafia” during Christmas time would be more than enough to make this a fun show. However, this is the MCU we are dealing with and the plot has far more going on than what it at first seems. To start with Kate’s home life is rather “interesting” her mother seems legit at first and her mother’s new boyfriend seems very suspect. However, this is a huge part of the show and a lot of fun.
Add to this that Yelena, the new Black Widow holds Clint responsible for the death of Natasha and is hunting him down and you have a whole lot going on. Florence Pugh as Yelena is just so much fun and while I was praising the Clint and Kate relationship, the scenes between Kate and Yelena are also a great deal of fun too.
One thing that I loved about the Hawkeye series was the setting. It was not just the fact that it was set in New York, but it is New York at Christmas time and that is awesome. This could actually make my list of stuff that I have to watch each Christmas time. The theme of Christmas and family being together is actually very important to the show.
I thought that Hawkeye was a whole lot of fun. With a great mixture of characters, we already know and fun new ones, it is a show that has one foot in the past and one in the future of the MCU. It handles it very, very well and the six-episode run of the show really does fly by if you are binge-watching it.
While I had a ton of fun watching Hawkeye with my family, I do have one little “issue” or nit-pick with the show. As awesome as this show is, I have to say that as Christmas is such a strong theme of the show, I could not imagine watching this at any other time of the year.
