Hilda

You know, Hilda may very well be the best kids animated show that Netflix has produced! This show is fantastic and the perfect show if you want something fun and wholesome for your children to watch. The thing is, it is also a great deal of fun for the parents as well as it has so much charm!

The Movie Review

There are two seasons on Netflix with a third on the way. The show was so successful that it even got a movie, Hilda and the Mountain King. I would describe the show as a more wholesome and heartfelt Gravity Falls type of show, not a dig at Gravity Falls at all, I love that show, but this is more about the characters than laughs and spookiness if you get what I am saying.

Hilda is a lovely little girl that lives with her mother on the edge of the forest. One day, her mother tells Hilda that they are moving to the city of Trolberg and Hilda is not too pleased about this. She loves living in the woods and all the weird, strange and mythical creatures that live there too, she is sure there will be nothing like this in the big city!

Once Hilda and her mother arrive in the city, Hilda soon learns that city life is anything, but boring and there are all kinds of interesting creatures and strange things going on here too. Hilda also meets two kids that become her best friends, Frida and David, the three of them, and Hilda’s fox, Twig go on many adventures together.

One of the things that I really like about Hilda is the way each episode does not just have a clear-cut bad guy/monster type storyline for her and her friends to solve. While there are interesting creatures in the show, even the ones that look really bad have more going on than you would think. It makes for a very interesting and thought-provoking show and that is why it is so great for kids to watch.

We also get to see Hilda grow as a person too, being good to her friends, mother and the people and creatures she comes across showcases what a big heart she has. Speaking of heart, I love the special and lovely moments that we get between Hilda and her mother, if you have kids of your own, you will get a real kick out of this very special relationship that the show has.

The look of the show is fantastic. It has a very interesting use of color to it and it certainly catches your attention. However, what I like best about the way the show looks are the imaginative and fun creature designs. Even “creatures” that you may know from other lore, have a fun twist to them here. Also, the voice acting is great, the actress who is Hilda does a wonderful job of bringing her to life.

In all, Hilda is one of those shows that I really do not have a bad thing to say about. I know this may sound strange, but I would say it is kind of like a middle ground between Steven Universe and Gravity Falls. It is a show that has a ton of heart, lovely characters, and best of all, you will get just as hooked on it as the kids are!
