As you have probably guessed, Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard (sometimes named with the preceding “The”) is the sequel to the fantastic 2017 action-comedy The Hitman’s Bodyguard. The movie brings back director Patrick Hughes along with the key cast members, Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson, and Selma Hayek. It also adds some fantastic additions to the cast most notably Antonio Banderas, Morgan Freeman, and Frank Grillo.

The Movie Review
Before we start, I have to say that I am really shocked at the negative reception this movie is getting! I loved the first movie as much as anyone and I have to say that I found Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard to be just as good, if not better! It is a riot from start to end and the chemistry between the three leads is just amazing.
After the events of the first movie, Michael Bryce (Ryan Reynolds) is feeling really down and this therapist convinces him to take a break from the world of bodyguarding. He is doing well until Sonia Kincaid (Selma Hayek) shows up with all guns blazing telling him that he needs to help her save her husband Darius (Samuel L Jackson) as he needs their help.
Once Bryce and Sonia save Darius the trio ends up in big trouble as they come across the radar of Interpol agent Bobby O’ Neil (Frank Grillo). O’ Neil forces them to help him stop a terrorist plot where Aristotle Papadopoulos (Antonio Banderas) is planning on unleashing a devastating attack that will destroy most of Europe.
Add to this the subplot of Bryce having daddy issues (which is hilarious by the way) and losing his confidence as a bodyguard and Sonia and Darius trying to have a baby and you have a ton of stuff going on. The thing is, the movie is very easy to follow and it is a great deal of fun from start to end.
All of the cast do a great job, but I have to say that Selma Hayek as Sonia stole the show for me. She is hilarious and absolutely crazy; you can just tell that she, Ryan Reynolds, and Samuel L Jackson were having a hell of a good time making this movie. It is a fun action-comedy and as I said at the start, I am not sure why it is not winning people over as the first one did!
There are some amazing action set pieces in this movie that have you on the edge of your seat. I will say that you can see what is going to happen from a mile away, but it is still a lot of fun. The comedy feels great and is completely over the top too, but the actors are so convincing in their roles they make it work!
As you can tell, I had a great time with Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard. I ended up watching the first one just before going to see this and I enjoyed this one slightly more. I highly recommend you check this movie out if you love action comedies, I would also suggest making sure you have seen the first one before you jump into this!
