How to Train Your Dragon 2 is a 3D action-adventure animated film produced by DreamWorks Animation. The film is a sequel to the movie called How to Train Your Dragon (2010) and was released on 16th May 2014. The Film Review
The story continues five years after peace was made between the dragons and the Viking village of Berk. Hiccup and his dragon, called Toothless, now spend their days going on adventures and exploring different locations until one day, they discover the existence of a vicious conqueror named Drago Bludvist, who aims to take control of all the dragons and in turn, destroy Berk.
Hiccup, after failing to convince Drago to stop his plan, stumbles upon a woman who turns out to be her long-lost mother. Meanwhile, Drago defeats the Alpha dragon known as Bewilderbeast – a dragon that controls all the other adult dragons – and then uses the power of his own dragon to control and manipulate all the other adult dragons. It is up to Hiccup and Toothless now to protect Berk from Drago’s destruction.
Five years after the first edition was released, DreamWorks, partnering together with Hewlett-Packard, developed software that used scalable multicore processing. How to Train Your Dragon 2 is the first DreamWorks feature film that made use of this new platform to animate and produce the film. This software completely changed the way the characters were produced according to director Dean Deblois, it helped the animators get more complex in terms of creating the characters. He further explained how the animators were able to produce and maintain each character’s detailed features in terms of the sharpness and texture of their overall appearance.
Programs named Premo and Torch were also used in parallel in order to improve the facial expressions of the characters. The Chief Technology Officer of DreamWorks Animation, Lincoln Wallen, claimed that this new platform is not just limited to visual effects or animated movies, but it’s something that numerous companies will be able to use in the future for the purpose of entertainment, promotion, design, and manufacturing. According to the filmmakers, over 500 people had worked on this film by the end of its production.

The movie’s main theme song was composed by John Powell which achieved him his first nomination at the Academy Awards for Best Original Score. In addition, the movie itself was nominated for Best Animated Feature at the Academy Awards and also managed to gross over $621 million at the box office, making it a successful film.
