Written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan, Knock at the Cabin has been a movie that I have been interested in for quite some time. I am always willing to give anything M. Night Shyamalan is associated with a chance, but I will admit his work is either a hit or a miss, there is never any middle ground with this guy.

The Movie Review
I had taken a peek at a few of the early reviews for Knock at the Cabin and they were rather mixed, which is typical for an M. Night Shyamalan movie! Still, I thought the trailer looked great and I am a big fan of Dave Bautista so I was interested to see how he would do in a more dramatic role.
The plot of the movie is what you see in the trailer. We have a gay couple Andrew and Eric and they are staying at a cabin in the woods with their daughter Wen. One of the things that I liked about the movie was that there was not a ton of setup, things get going pretty much right away.
Wen is approached by a big man in the woods called Leonard and while he seems friendly, there is something off. Leonard is joined by three other people, Redmond, Adriane, and Sabine and they force their way into the cabin and tell Eric and Andrew that they have been chosen to make a sacrifice.
Look, the trailer completely gives away the plot of the movie. Eric and Andrew are told that if they do not make a sacrifice that the world will end. That is pretty much the whole premise of the plot that is going on here. However, I feel that the way it is executed is done very well and there is a lot of tension all the way up to the end.
I went back and forth on if these four people were legit or if they were just nuts! The movie manages to keep you guessing for a while. Dave Bautista is the leader of the movie and he does a wonderful job here. I said to my wife after the movie ended that I have a feeling he is going to get a ton more work based on his performance here.
One thing that I thought was good was how it offered these little flashbacks which do not take up much time, but they do make you like Eric and Andrew more. The movie has a rather short running time, but I actually think that works in the favor of the movie as I feel that the pace is great and anything else would have been padding just to make it longer.
Once the movie ended and my wife and I left the theatre, I really liked the movie and she was not all that impressed. That to be fair is typical of an M. Night Shyamalan movie. I thought that it completely delivered what the trailer promised and I was entertained from start to end. If the trailer makes you think that this is not a movie for you, chances are it is not so you may want to skip it or wait for it to hit streaming. However, I really liked it!
