I am a massive fan of Judd Apatow and Knocked Up is my favorite movie of his. As well as Judd Apatow’s writing and directing, this movie has an awesome cast which is led by Seth Rogan and Katherine Heigl. This is one of those movies that my wife and I have watched multiple times and we always end up laughing, even though we know the jokes and scenes are coming.
How to Download Knocked Up
Knocked Up was released on June 1, 2007. You can download or stream the film from a digital platform. Click on the Download button at the end of this review and make your choice. If you like Judd Apatow, check also his 2005 film The 40-Year-Old Virgin.
The Movie Review
The supporting cast here is great too. Paul Rudd, Leslie Mann, Jonah Hill, Jason Segel, Jay Baruchel, Matin Star, and Charlyne Li make for such a fun group. We have some awesome smaller cameo-style roles here too such as James Franco playing himself, Harold Ramis as Seth Rogan’s dad, and roles for the likes of Alan Tudyk, Bill Hader, and Kristen Wiig. You get a roll call of many frequent Apatow and Rogan collaborators and I find that a whole lot of fun.
Raunchy Comedy
This is a raunchy and wild comedy that some people may say has not aged all that gracefully and I will admit that it does portray the guys as fun-loving and the women as naggers, but at the end of the day, it is a comedy (a great one at that) and it is not trying to be some kind of social commentary.
Plot Summary
Alison Scott is a journalist whose career is on the rise. Alison has just been awarded the role of an on-air interviewer for the TV channel E! To celebrate her awesome career milestone, Alison along with her sister, Debbie decided to go out and celebrate. Debbie is a great mom and wife, but she wants to get out and cut loose for one night.
While on this night out, she meets Ben. Ben is a slacker living off a compensation cheque, while trying to launch a porn website with his slacker buddies. Ben and Alison could not be any more different. I liked how we saw Debbie interact with Ben’s friends as well as Ben and Alison having fun in the club together.
Ben and Alison end up hooking up. After their night of drunken sex, Alison realizes she has nothing in common with Ben and pretty much kicks him to the curb, thinking she will never see him again. Well, turns out their night of passion ended up with her getting pregnant and now her personal and professional life is in chaos.
We then get this hilarious courtship between Ben and Alison as they get to know each other better and start to maybe picture a life together as a family. In addition to this, we have trouble with Debbie and Pete’s marriage, the scene with them looking at predators on the computer always makes me laugh out loud. We also have Ben and his buddies’ website not exactly going the way that they thought it would.
Heartfelt and Hilarious
I just adore this movie. It is so funny, but I do also think that it has a lot of heart too! I get that some may think it is a “guys fun” and “girls bad” kind of movie, but I really do not see that and if you ask me, that is a narrative that has just started over the last few years! I do not remember anyone complaining about this when the movie was released back in 2007! The ladies here are mostly portrayed as strong and independent women and the guys are screwups!
Conclusion
I have probably seen Knocked Up ten times since I first saw it in the theatre all those years ago and it is just as fun today as it was back then. It is the kind of movie I can put on if I am having a rough day and just have a lot of fun with it. Although, I will admit the birthing scene made me scared to be at the “business end” when my son was born a year later! If you are an expecting father, maybe close your eyes during that scene!
