Meet the Robinsons

Released in 2007, Meet the Robinsons is one of those movies that Disney has pretty much just thrown in the vault and left there. While it did fairly well critically when it was released it was a real bomb for Disney at the box office. To be fair, it is a pretty fun sci-fi movie that has some good moments.

The Movie Review

Like many people, before this was released, it was the whole “I have a big head and little arms” thing from the T-Rex that made me want to see this movie. I remember going to see this and after the credits rolled, I thought it was pretty good. However, I must admit that this is one of those movies that is fun while and just after you have watched it, but it is also kind of forgettable too.

The plot of the movie is about this kid called Lewis. Lewis is a very talented inventor and is always coming up with these awesome inventions that more often than not blow up in his face. He is a loveable kind of character, but he has spent his whole life in an orphanage waiting for a special family to come and adopt him.

You really do feel for poor Lewis as all he wants is a family. Lewis really wants to find his birth mother and he creates a memory scanner that he is going to show off at the school science fair. Well, Lewis meets a plucky and cool teenager called Wilbur Robinson and he tells him that he is from the future and needs Lewis’s help.

Meet the Robinsons Trailer

A bad guy from the future, The Guy In The Bowler Hat has stolen a time machine and now he is causing havoc and he could take over the world! Wilbur manages to get Lewis to help him, but he does so by telling him that he will take him back in time to meet his birth mother if he does.

When Wilbur takes Lewis to the future to “Meet the Robinsons” it is a lot of fun. This is one of the weirdest and wackiest families you will ever see and they all have a real connection with Lewis. Now, it may just be me, but in watching this movie again for the first time in years, there is something kind of creepy about the attraction they all seem to have with Lewis.

I do not want to spoil the big twist of the movie as it is a really good one and I bet it would blow a kid’s mind! The movie moves at a very quick pace and there is always something crazy going on. This is good in one way, but it also means that you never really have time to take anything in. This is a shame because for all this is a sci-fi comedy, it also has a lot of heart and a nice message.

If you are looking for something fun to watch on Disney Plus (or download using their mobile app), I say give Meet the Robinsons a try. It is one of those movies that is actually pretty good and it is quite entertaining, more so than people give it credit for. It may not be one of the most amazing Disney movies, but I have always felt that it deserved to do a bit better than it did when it was initially released.
