No Hard Feelings was one of those movies that I almost did the whole “I will wait until it hits streaming” thing to watch. Let me say, I am so glad that my wife and I made the effort to go and see this in our local theatre. It is the funniest movie I have seen in the theatre this year and we both had so much fun watching it.

The Movie Review
Before I get to the movie I have to go on a rant about Jennifer Lawrence. Nothing bad, I think Jennifer Lawrence is fantastic, however, this is the first time she has gotten to be in a comedy like this! She is usually in drama or action movies and she is great in them. However, she is so funny when you see her in interviews, I am kind of shocked that she has not done more comedic roles.
No Hard Feelings in many ways feels like one of the gross out over the top raunchy comedies that were huge in the late 90s and early 00s. Think of stuff like American Pie, Superbad, and Role Models and you will have a pretty solid idea of what to expect from this movie.
The story is about early 30s Uber driver (and bartender) Maddie whose life is in a real mess right now. She is desperate for money and has lost her car which she needs to make money in order to keep the home she inherited from her mother! She is looking for a way out of this financial mess that she is in and then she sees a rather unusual Craigslist ad.
Sure, there is weird stuff posted on there all the time, but this ad is by parents that are looking for someone to help their 19-year-old son come out of his shell before he heads off to college. I have to say that it kind of made me feel really old to see Matthew Broderick looking as old as he does in this movie!
Anyway, their son is called, Percy and Percy is socially awkward to the max. However, the young actor playing him, Andrew Barth Freeman is fantastic! I have not seen him in anything before, but you completely root for this young man as while he is rather weird, he is so likable and you can tell he has a good heart.
What we have is Maddie trying to seduce him and get him out of his shell so that she can cash in and get a car for completing the job. Look, you can see where this is going a mile away, but I am not going to hold that against the movie as the execution is so good and legit had me laughing throughout most of the movie.
It is a rather slapstick kind of comedy with a lot of it being physical which I was not expecting. The movie is crude as hell, but it is so funny, still if you are easily offended, you probably will want to give this a miss. While the movie is hilarious, I think our two leads show a lot of heart and personality and by the end of it all, you really do care for them both.
I cannot say enough positive things about No Hard Feelings. Over the last few months, I have seen big blockbuster after big blockbuster at the theatre and this was such a great change of pace. If you want a fun movie-going experience, go out for some nice pizza, grab some snacks, and watch this, trust me, that is the perfect and fun evening right there.
