Oh, God! Download

How I had made it over 40 years on this Earth and had no idea that there was a series of movies where George Burns played God is beyond me. I am always looking for new movies to add to my collection that I have never seen and I came across the Oh, God! Collection randomly and noticed Geroge Burns on the cover.

How to Download Oh, God!

The Movie Review

I flipped the box around and saw that freaking musical legend John Denver was in one of the movies! What were these movies? How had I never heard of them? Why was this set so expensive? I paid more than I would have liked to for this Blu-Ray set, but I was so intrigued by it I just had to add it to my collection.

Upon reading the back of the box, I got some Bruce and Evan Almighty vibes from what I was reading and that actually made me even more excited to check these movies out. Oh, God! Was released in 1977 and as I said, it stars George Burns as God and John Denver as a supermarket assistant manager called Jerry.

Jerry is your typical average everyday hardworking American Joe, but his life is about to change forever. God tries to get in contact with Jerry and when he eventually does, he tells Jerry that he wants him to be his messenger. He wants Jerry to spread the word of God and let people know about him. As you would expect, Jerry is skeptical of this, but due to some of the things he sees, he knows this is for real and goes along with it.

God’s Hilarious Intervention

As you would expect, no one believes Jerry, and his life starts to fall apart with many people thinking that he is a nut and he even ends up on the wrong end of a lawsuit. However, Jerry does start to believe and God does help him in some “mysterious ways” The scene with God being the food delivery guy was hilarious and something that I got a huge kick out of.

Is “Oh, God!” More Comedy or Heart?

While Oh, God! Is most certainly best described as a comedy, I have to be honest and say that it only had a few moments that legit made me laugh. To be fair, I was comparing this to the slapstick, zany comedies of the “Almighty” movies and this is most certainly not like those when it comes to the over the top comedy.

Still, Oh, God! Manages to have a lot of heart. It is the kind of movie that could have been really preachy, but that is not the case at all. It does have a rather cheesy message at the end and to be honest, I did wonder why God would ditch Jerry like he did. However, it still made me smile by the time the credits started to roll. I think that George Burns was great as God, but it was the everyman of Jerry who carried this movie for me.

Final Thoughts on the Oh, God!

While I had fun with Oh, God! And I am happy that I found this and added it to my collection. I kind of wish I just got this first movie as the other two movies in this collection are not very good. Also, I kind of feel like if I had seen this before I had seen Bruce Almighty or Evan Almighty, I probably would have enjoyed it more than I did.
