As I write this Pooh’s Heffalump Movie I have been with my wife for 20 years and even in 2022, I have not seen her as excited for a movie as she was for this back in 2005! Pooh’s Heffalump Movie was the third theatrically released Winnie the Pooh movie from the early to mid-00s by Disney. It followed The Tigger Movie and Piglet’s Big Movie and it is as you would expect, freaking adorable!

The Movie Review
The big draw here was that it was the first time in many years a new major character was getting introduced to the Winnie the Pooh cast, Lumpy the Heffalump. Heffalumps (and let’s not forget Woozles!) have been the baddies in the 100 Acre Wood for many years and getting to see a friendly one was pretty fun.
While this is called Pooh’s Heffalump Movie, the stars of the movie are our adorable Heffalump, Lumpy, and most interestingly of all, Roo. The gang hears a strange noise deep in the woods and concludes that it is a Heffalump so Pooh, Tigger, Rabbit, Piglet, and Eeyore head out to set traps and capture the Heffalump.
Roo wants to join them; however, they tell Roo that he is too young. Roo is kind of mad about this and decides to head out and capture the Heffalump on his own. I thought that it was pretty neat how we got a story about Roo and how he wanted to be treated like the rest of the gang and not just like a little kid.

While he is in the woods looking for the dangerous Heffalump, Roo comes across Lumpy and the two become instant friends. Lumpy and Roo have a lot of fun playing with each other and Lumpy tells Roo that he is lost and cannot find his mother. Roo is going to help Lumpy get home, but first, he wants to introduce him to all his friends.
Now, Pooh’s Heffalump Movie does an interesting thing here. Do you know how the folks in the 100 Acre Wood think that all Heffalumps are scary? Well, Lumpy thinks that Tigger, Pooh, and Piglet are scary and he is worried about meeting them! It is a fun twist and a good way for kids to learn a little bit about not judging people before you know them.
As you would expect, this movie is very cute and Lumpy was a welcomed addition to the world of Winnie the Pooh. At the time, my wife was all in and I do not think there was a piece of Lumpy merchandise that we did not have! While many people know about this movie, there was a sequel Pooh’s Heffalump Halloween Movie which was released later in 2005 and was straight to DVD, this is a fun watch as well.
Lumpy would hang around for a little while, having the main role in My Friends Tigger and Pooh most notably. However, for whatever reason, Disney decided to go back to the core characters with their next Winnie the Pooh movie and Lumpy has pretty much been pushed out.
Out of the three Winnie the Pooh movies that were released during this five-year period, Pooh’s Heffalump Movie is probably my favorite. It is a charming, cute, and funny animated adventure and one that kids and adults can have a lot of fun with. If you watch this and like it, I also highly recommend that you check out the sequel as it is a bit of a hidden gem as far as Disney movies go.
