So, I have to talk to you about Redeeming Love! This is one of the weirdest, most disturbing, and just flat-out awful romance movies I have ever seen. My wife tricked me into watching this with the promise that I would “like it as it is set during the Old West”. That did sound appealing to me, but boy was this a movie that had my eyes and mouth wide open for most of it.

The Movie Review
To start with, Redeeming Love is rated PG-13… how the heck did this get that rating? I am not even trying to be dramatic here, but this movie has rape, incest, and child molestation! Not to mention brutal beatings, suicide, and a very weird Christian faith thing going on during its entire run time. How the heck does something like this get a PG-13 rating yet a movie like Venom really struggles?
The plot of the movie is about this farmhand called Michael and Michael is a good old-fashioned Christian boy who loves his bible and talks to God regularly. One day, Michael sees Angel coming to town to work at the local brothel and he falls in love with her at first sight.
Angel has had a brutal life and I have to tell you that the stuff she went through as a kid is very hard to watch, again how this is a PG-13 is beyond me! Angel is the greatest hooker the West has ever seen. There is literally a mob of people waiting outside to secure her services, kind of like a line of people waiting for a photograph with a start at Comic-Con!
She is so popular and so good at her job that they have to do a weird lottery thing to see which lucky cowboy can get with her. Michael spends a lot of money to be with Angel, but as he is a good old Christian boy, he just talks to her. What is super weird is that all he really does is ask her to marry him, but without ever really getting to know her.
After a rough encounter at the whorehouse, Michael like a good white knight makes the save and brings the battered and bruised Angel back to his home. Michael is really close to being a creepy religious serial killer type in my opinion and there were even a few moments I thought for sure the movie may go there!
One positive thing I do have to say about Redeeming Love is that the Old West setting is kind of cool. I have been a fan of the Old West since I was a kid and that at first did pull me in. The set designs and the costumes were all really well done so I give them credit for that.
I cannot think of another romance movie that comes anywhere close to what the heck this was offering. I know I have said it multiple times at this point, but how the heck is this a PG-13 movie? I am not even saying that because I was “offended” I just find it so bizarre that the ratings board thought this was ok to slap a PG-13 sticker on it. This is one of those movies that is so bad and weird that you almost have to check it out!
