Powerful and brutal is probably the best way to describe Sound of Freedom. I knew going in that this was a movie about a man fighting to stop child trafficking, but that did not prepare me for the brutal ride that I was about to go on. Written and directed by Alejandro Monteverde, Sound of Freedom is one of the most underrated movies of the year for me so far.

The Movie Review
I was ignorant of the fact that this was based on a true story. It is based on the story of a real-life hero called, Tim Ballard who was an agent, but quit to try and take down this child trafficking ring. After the movie, I read countless articles about this man and he is legit as close to a real-life superhero as you can get.
Heart-Wrenching Beginnings
The movie starts with a poor father being deceived and having his children kidnapped from him and put into a child trafficking ring. Tim eventually manages to rescue one of the children, the little boy, Miguel, but Miguel tells him that his sister is still missing and this sets Tim on a dangerous and heroic quest in Columbia to try and get her back.
Outstanding Performances
I am not going to go into too much detail here as the movie is the kind of thing that you cannot take your eyes off. Jim Caviezel is fantastic as Tim Ballard and honestly, I feel like he deserves an Oscar nomination for this. He is just so believable in this role and plays it with so much heart and sincerity.
Dynamic Characters and Collaborative Efforts
We also have Bill Camp as a guy called Vampiro. Vampiro used to work for the Cartel, but now he is one of the main forces of trying to stop child trafficking and he and Tim join forces. They make for one hell of a team and they have fantastic chemistry and you get so invested in their fight. Mira Sorvino plays Tim’s wife and she is a hero in her own right too!
The child actors in Sound of Freedom are some of the best I have ever seen. The quality of their performances is just outstanding and it really does break your heart. I was blown away by their performances, but they are so good that it is quite haunting as you know that there are poor little souls that are actually suffering like this in the real world.
A Thought-Provoking and Impactful Film
Sound of Freedom is the kind of movie that keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time you are watching it. While it is classed as an action movie, it is far more than just that. It truly does make you think and that is a good thing, the bit at the end of the movie where it tells you just how bad child trafficking and slavery is these days was truly eye-opening stuff.
Do not go into this thinking that you are getting a balls-to-the-wall action movie! While it does certainly have action and a lot of tension, this is a movie that really does leave a toll on your soul. I am so glad that I was able to check this out in the theatre. It certainly opened up my eyes to how messed up this thing is and if you can support any of the charities around the world that fight child trafficking, please do so.
