Having enjoyed the manga and the anime, I was very interested to see how That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Scarlet Bond turned out. The anime series was such a fun, wholesome, but also quite adult show that it was impossible not to love and I am looking forward to the third season.

The Movie Review
If you enjoyed the anime series, you will enjoy this, it really is as simple as that. The setting of the movie is after the events of season 2 of the anime. This means that you need to be up to speed on what is happening. It does its best to fill people in, but there are some spoilers if you have not caught up yet and I would wager those unfamiliar with the series will have a hard time getting invested.
The plot of the movie is pretty fun. Rimiru Tempest (Slime), the man-turned-slime who can take other people’s forms and powers. Slime and the gang end up on a pretty wild adventure here that sees them going off to a mysterious land in the West. There is a princess in this strange land and they are heading over there to get to the bottom of a conspiracy.
I found this to be a fun premise and the two new characters that are introduced are great. First of all, we have the princess of this nation who is very interesting. However, the character that I loved in this movie was Hiiro who is a pretty big part of the lore, but this is the first time we have seen him in this anime adaptation. He is a long-lost hero (and brother) and his backstory is something that I really did enjoy.
Now, the people behind the show have made a big deal out of mentioning that this is canon to the anime series. I feel that as a follow on to season 2, it is fantastic, and seeing what Rimiru is like now as the demon lord was something that I thought was cool and very well done.
As a movie based on the Slime series, I feel that That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Scarlet Bond does a serviceable job. It feels like a bridge between seasons 2 and 3 and it felt to me like it was setting up the princess and Hiiro to become major players in the third season of the show.
There are a couple of scenes here that are just incredible. However, while some of the action scenes are great, the animation for the most part feels more TV than movie-like. That is not necessarily a terrible thing, but it makes this feel more like something that should have been put out on DVD/Blu-Ray rather than being released into theatres, all be it in a rather limited capacity.
Look, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Scarlet Bond is a movie that is made for people that have seen the first two seasons of the show and are waiting for the third season. Apart from the two new characters that were introduced here, most of what happens in the movie does have a kind of filler aspect, almost like nothing matters and there are no real consequences that come out of this.
