It is crazy to think that it has been over eight years since The Accountant was released! Gavin O’Connor is back to direct along with Ben Affleck, Jon Bernthal, JK Simmons, and Cynthia Addai-Robinson (she’s also Tar-Miriel in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power). Let me get to this right now, The Accountant 2 is awesome, I already enjoyed the first movie and in watching it again before I went to see this, it was even better than I remembered it being. However, this is just better in every regard!

The Movie Review
Christian Wolff Returns: The Plot of The Accountant 2
Once again, Ben Affleck plays the role of Christian Wolff, an accountant who is great with numbers and also at killing people. However, Christian is on the spectrum, and that makes dealing with other people tricky for him. An important person is killed and there is a message on his arm that says, “find the accountant.” This movie just starts right away and it was one of those things where as soon as the opening scene was done, I knew this was going to be good.
Christian and Braxton: Brothers Reunited
Christian is on the case, but he needs some help. This is where Jon Bernthal comes in, and I am a huge fan of his. Braxton is Christian’s younger brother, and he is also an assassin. The parts with Christian and Braxton just hanging out and being brothers are some of the best scenes in the movie! These two have amazing chemistry together and they are just as entertaining when they are getting on each other’s nerves as they are kicking ass.
Jon Bernthal Shines in an Expanded Role
I thought that Jon Bernthal was good in the first movie, but Braxton gets way more screen time here, and his character is fleshed out really well. Sure, he and Christian may get on each other’s nerves, and they are pretty much estranged when the movie starts. However, you can tell that deep down, Braxton just wants the approval of his big brother. It is awesome to see him get such a great role here, as he had a very small role in the less than great The Amateur, also released this year.
A Strong Supporting Cast Elevates the Film
They are not just trying to crack this case and take down the bad guys by themselves. They are joined by an agent who may not exactly approve of the extreme methods that the brothers use to get the job done. In all, we have a really tight cast here, and they all bounce off each other very well.
The Action and Heart of The Accountant 2
There are some really exciting action scenes in The Accountant 2, but this is not just trying to get by on being a badass action movie. The movie is just as entertaining when there are no bullets flying around and people getting punched in the face. The reason for this is that they do such a great job of making you care about these characters. This is a movie that comes in at a little over two hours and those two plus hours just absolutely zoomed by as I was having so much fun.
A Worthy Sequel That Delivers More Than Expected
If I am being honest, I pretty much knew going into the movie that I was going to like it, I would have been more shocked if this ended up being bad, to be honest with you. However, while the action was awesome, I was shocked at just how good and well done the characters were in this movie. There have been some great action movies released over the last few years, and I would well and truly add The Accountant 2 to that list. If I can, I may go and check this out again before it finishes its theatrical run.
