The Boss Baby is a 3D downloadable animated comedy film produced by DreamWorks Animation. The film is distributed by 20th Century Fox and was released on 12th March 2017. It is directed by Tom McGrath and features a cast consisting of Alec Baldwin, Steve Buscemi, Jimmy Kimmel, Miles Bakshi, Lisa Kudrow, and James McGrath.

The Film Review
The Plot
The movie follows the story of a 7-year-old Tim Templeton, the only child of Ted and Janice. One day, Tim finds out that he now has a little brother who has the ability to talk and think like an adult. Upon asking, the baby reveals himself to be The Boss who is here to gather information about Puppy Co.: A puppy company where Tim’s parents work.
The Boss Baby takes Tim to Baby Corp. where he learns how babies can learn to talk like adults by drinking a secret baby formula. Boss Baby explains his plan to prevent the release of a “Forever Puppy” at a convention in Las Vegas. The two then travel with Tim’s parents in order to travel to Vegas however, they are encountered by Francis E. Francis, the ex-leader of Baby Corp. who Boss Baby once idolized as well.
Francis, who is now working in support of the Forever Puppy, steals Boss Baby’s serum bottle and replaces his presence with his brother Eugene in front of Tim’s parents.
The duo gets left behind as Boss Baby begins to lose his adult powers, however, before he can fully transform back into a baby, the two get on another flight to Vegas where they encounter Francis and Eugene. Francis locks away Tim’s parents but the two manage to free them after taking down both Eugene and Francis.
After completing the mission, Boss Baby goes back as Tim continues being an only child. The film ends as we get to see Tim sending a letter to Boss Baby, explaining how he misses him. Boss Baby returns as a regular baby named Theodore Lindsey Templeton.
The Boss Baby: the Production of the Movie
Tom McGrath, who had previously worked on renowned projects such as the Madagascar Trilogy, explained how his main aim was to reproduce the charm and nostalgia of classic animation in the film. For this purpose, the animators including McGrath himself got together and watched classical cartoons.
Although it seemed easy to do so initially, McGrath explained how actually implying those effects on to the CG animation was relatively more of a challenge. The animators were given a responsibility to design a baby who looked professional and disciplined, as well as cute at the same time.
The Score
Moving on to the film’s main theme song, it was scored by Hans Zimmer and Steve Mazzaro. The soundtrack was released on Black Lot Music and iTunes.
The Bottom Line
Overall, the movie was received with support and praise from both the fans and critics. The film went on to gross over $528 million at the box office. Apart from that, it was also nominated for Best Animated Feature at the Academy and Annie Awards. Due to its popularity, a sequel called The Boss Baby: Back In Business was also released earlier in 2018. The film is entertaining, colorful, and most importantly, family-friendly.
