The Witches of Eastwick is a 1987 movie that is even better than I remember it being. I picked this up on Blu-Ray for the very budget-friendly price of £4 and was excited to watch it again after not seeing it for many years. I knew I liked this movie, but not only does it hold up, it is one of those cases where the movie was so much better than I remember it being.

The Movie Review
I had so much fun watching this and there were quite a few things I forgot about, despite having seen the movie a few times. We have to start by talking about the amazing cast that this movie has. Our three leading ladies, Cher, Michelle Pfeiffer (check her out in Batman Returns, Murder on the Orient Express, and Avengers: Endgame), and Susan Sarandon have amazing chemistry together. Also, I never feel that Cher gets the full credit she deserves for her acting ability and I would put this up there with her best roles.
Our three bewitching ladies have a rather awesome antagonist to deal with in Jack Nicholson’s Daryl Van Horne who is pretty much the devil. Something I forgot about was that there is another antagonist, the super annoying, Felicia Alden who is played by Veronica Cartwright, she was a character that I loved to hate!
A Fun and Captivating Story
The story of The Witches of Eastwick is a ton of fun. We have these three single women, Alex, Jane, and Suki who have all had their husbands leave them via various “methods” and they have a kind of club. They meet up to drink wine, and talk about men and they also accidentally form a coven as it turns out they are witches.
When Daryl comes to town, it awakens something in them. The three ladies all get with Daryl and agree to share him, but they soon realize their power comes at a cost and things start to get out of hand. I love the way that we see each of the women embrace their powers as well as fight their fears which Daryl brings to life.
Jack Nicholson’s Charisma Shines
Jack Nicholson is so charismatic in this movie! The way he is different with each of the ladies and he makes them all fall for him is so very well done. You start to think that they could all be one big happy family, but then you are slapped in the face with the fact that this is a very bad guy and our three witches need to get out of this situation.
Perfect Pacing and Engaging Plot
It comes in at a little under two hours, but the pacing is great. The movie always feels like it is moving forward and I was shocked that it did last the better part of two hours as it zoomed by. It manages to be funny, heartwarming, and sexy and it has a really good message of sisterhood and sticking together.
A Cult Classic Worth Revisiting
At the end of the day, The Witches of Eastwick is just a really fun movie. It is a real shame that this never got a sequel as they certainly left it open for one. This is a bit of a cult hit and I am surprised that it has never been regarded higher than it is. I love this movie and I am glad that I finally added it to my collection after all these years.
