Something Just Like This is an electronic dance-pop song by The Chainsmokers and Coldplay. It is taken as the second single from The Chainsmoker’s debut album called Memories… Do Not Open. It is also the lead single from Coldplay’s thirteenth extended play Kaleidoscope.

The Song Review
Something Just Like This debuted at number 55 on the Billboard Hot 100 list and rose up to number 5 in only its second week. It became the sixth most selling song of the United States in 2017.
Apart from that, it was also nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards. The song was first teased in 2016 when The Chainsmokers posted a couple of short clips of their upcoming song, hinting that it had background vocals from Chris Martin, the lead singer of Coldplay.
Something Just Like This was officially released on 22nd February 2017 and is available to play through digital download.
Something Just Like This can somewhat be termed as a romantic song in terms of its lyrics. The beat may be electronic, but the lyrics are serene and mushy. The lyrics begin with Coldplay giving examples of different superheroes and undermining themselves by comparing with them.
Something Just Like This: the Lyrics
The lyrics then quote the girl who asks the boy as to what he has to offer to her since she does not expect him to have any superhuman qualities.
In coherence with the theme, the lyrics keep quoting the girl who simply desires a simple wish as it follows “I’m not looking for somebody with some superhuman gifts, some superhero, some fairytale bliss, just something I can turn to, somebody I can kiss, I want something just like this”.
As the main chorus begins, the background tune shifts from pop to electronic dance with minor vocals of a single lyric being sung repeatedly by the British band. The latter part of the song features the exact same pattern in terms of both lyrics and tune.
The Video
The official music video for the song is a lyrical one which is completely based on 2D animation. Directed by James Zwaldo, the video starts with an animated photo of a boy dressed up as a superhero.
The lyrics begin to appear accordingly as the lyrics progress. The environment displayed in the video is somewhat linked to space as the boy fantasizes about stars and the endless universe.
The part where the chorus kicks in is an entertaining sequence as the young super boy travels across space, passing through different planets faster than rockets and airplanes.
The second half of the sequence shows the boy flying around the city as if he is trying to protect it from all sorts of troubles. It ends with the boy flying back from space on to the surface of the Earth where he traverses through different fields and plains before originally waking up from his dream.

Overall, Something Just Like This became an absolute hit globally. The music video for the song has over 1.5 billion views on YouTube, making it the 55th most viewed video on the platform.
