For a while there were a lot of games that had female protagonists, however, not all of them were focused on insane and action-packed gameplay. The downloadable Bayonetta is definitely one of the titles that managed to redefine just how action-adventure and shooter games need to play.

The Game Review
It was a really good game launched in 2009 and since then we didn’t get a new version. Which is a shame, because the gameplay is astounding and the overall experience you receive here is super impressive. The combat system is very similar to the Devil May Cry series, so you have smaller levels that you can complete, you have a combo system and lots of enemy types too.
Just like DMC, you also get to encounter different types of enemies and bosses too. The levels are short, which means you get to focus on eliminating those enemies and just having fun as you see fit. It really helps you enjoy the process the way you want to. There are no real restrictions, you just get to choose how to play and when to do so, which is exactly what you want from a game like this.
Bayonetta does have quick time events and those tend to bring you away from the action a little bit, which is a shame. That being said, you will notice that the story is not as good as DMC. The idea that you need to find the big bad and just go through other enemies here and there is not exactly that amazing. But the locations, the combo system, and scoring system are all super impressive.
Then there’s also the fact that you have a huge variety of items that you can use in the game. Some of these add up to create some great executions, lots of finishes and impressive ways to eliminate enemies. Bayonetta can also slow down time, which makes for some gruesome attacks. The gun variety is great and the fluidity of the gameplay is what really sets the game apart. You do have medals based on how you perform, and if you want you can reload a level and try to complete it with a higher tier.
Being able to transport yourself from paradise to inferno is great and it does bring in front some nifty moments as you play. It could be a bit better from a quality standpoint, but in the end, it does work and that’s what really matters the most at the end of the day. The game certainly delivers on its promise and the overall experience only gets better and better as you go along.
Despite the minor downsides, Bayonetta is still a great game. It created a new action hack and slash genre that Platinum Games continued after that. And a lot of people love it, after all, there’s even a sequel, released in 2014, five years later after the original. So it’s safe to say that Bayonetta was a success and hopefully we will see a lot more titles like this!
