The Game Review
Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is available in single-player mode. The game starts from the main menu where players are given the option to choose from three different versions of the game which can be played and were originally released for the PlayStation between 1996 and 1998.
This platformer is basically a remake with a similar storyline but improved graphics and gameplay. In each of the modes available, the players get to play as Crash Bandicoot, a bandicoot who has been mutated by the main antagonist of the game series known as Doctor Neo Cortex.
In the initial cutscene of the first part of the trilogy, Crash Bandicoot, Crash is seen being mutated by one of Cortex’s ray guns but manages to escape from his clutches and must now save Tawna, another bandicoot who Cortex now prepares for experimentation.
The game begins as players get to control Crash in third person view as they take him on an adventure through the jungle into Cortex’s castle where they have to rescue his friend. In the game, there are two types of enemies: the normal enemies and the boss enemies.
The normal enemies are one or two-hit characters that are encountered during the levels as the game progresses and can be easily be taken down by Crash. The boss enemies are encountered at the end of certain levels. Boss enemies are mostly bigger, and players are required to come up with a certain strategy in order to defeat them.
Each boss enemy is apparently more challenging than the previous one and each one has a unique weakness which the players need to target. Apart from that, there are numerous power-ups in the game that the players can collect along the way in order to help them fight against enemies.
These power-ups come in the form of Wumpa fruits which are basically the most common items distributed amongst the map and upon collecting 100 of them, the players receive an extra life. Other power-ups include an extra life bar, which can be attained by breaking boxes, and an Aku mask which, after collecting 3 of them, gives Crash the power to destroy boxes and kill normal enemies instantly after making contact with them.
Overall, Crash Bandicoot N. Sane trilogy is a fantastic remake of the original Crash Bandicoot series. The game has become the eighth highest selling PlayStation 4 game of all time. The game brings action, adventure and combines it with the perfect amount of nostalgia.
