Dead by Daylight is an asymmetric survival horror video game where there is one killer and four others play the roles of survivors. The killer has the objective of capturing their prey. The survivors, however, aim to escape the killer from the killing ground without being caught and murdered. The survivors have a perspective of the third person while the killer plays the first person. The game has been developed by Behaviour Interactive and published by Starbreeze Publishing.

The Game Mechanics
Dead by Daylight key feature is surviving together. The chance of survivors to escape from the killing ground depends on teamwork among themselves in a bid to escape. Things such as experience and familiarity with the environment are important for the survivors to escape and, similarly, for the killer to catch their prey. The killers are able to make a feast by mastery of unique power that aids in hunting. This includes the use of powerful and paranormal objects to catch and kill.
Every game has an unexpected scenario hence one can’t predict how the end result will turn out. This is partly due to how human react to horror actions.
The gameplay for the survivors begins when their group of four friends who must escape from the masked killer. They are in an enclosed area and they can escape only by repairing disabled generators. If they succeed their actions open a large door that leads them out of the area. They can also escape through a hatch which automatically opens when one survivor is left provided that at least two generators have been repaired.
The survivors’ means of avoiding the killer include hiding in buildings or behind objects and escaping into darkness. Chests in buildings provide first aid kits which enable the survivors to heal themselves. Toolboxes also assist in the repair of the disabled generators. The survivors have the ability to see when their teammates are in trouble and when the killers are near they will hear a heartbeat which makes the game atmosphere intense.
The killer may look different in each game. The possible roles are:

- Rin Yamaoka – the Spirit,
- Evan Macmilan – the Trapper,
- and Philip Ojomo – the Wraith,
- two more are coming in December 2018 and March 2019
The killer captures the survivors by striking them twice or catches them in their move to escape. He then throws them onto the meat hooks where the survivor can only get rescued by fellow survivors. If the survivor is hooked a third time he or she dies. It’s worth to note that the killer moves faster than the four but sometimes slow movements during the kill which makes an opportunity for the four to escape.
