I have come across some weird ideas in games before, but Goat of Duty might just be one of the weirdest. If you love old-school first-person shooters where they are just all about the shooting and having fun, this is for you. Goat of Duty is an over the top, silly and flat out ridiculous multiplayer game that as I write this review is in early access.

The Game Review
There is no lore in Goat of Duty and that is fine with me. The developers have actually used the lack of any kind of lore as a way to poke fun at themselves which I like. The basics here are that there are a bunch of goats that are smart, fast, can jump high and are armed to the teeth with heavy-duty weapons and they want to fight!
The way that you stand out from the pack is with your costumes or as this game calls them, Goatstumes. These costumes for the goats are funny and there are all kinds of ones, my personal favorite being Lucha Goat who is a wrestler goat. There are many Goatstumes to unlock as you play the game.
The style and humor do not stop there. The six maps are all weird and fun to ranging from Future Farm to Medieval Village. The maps are a decent size and I like how much variety to them in their design and layout there is. I was actually quite impressed with how clever some of these maps were.
As the actual gameplay goes, Goat of Duty is a standard first-person shooter that feels like it is trying to be more like Call of Duty from 2008 than 2020 and that is fine. It is just about having a blast and blasting other goats! There is not a ton of substance to the gameplay here, but that is kind of the point.
You have different multiplayer modes. These are your typical FPS modes such as a free for all mode and team deathmatch. No matter what one you pick, you are in for a crazy and over the top time. You start off with your default gun, but it is not that great. So it is a mad dash to get weapons that are scattered around each arena.
I do feel that there could be more weapons, but what is here is fun. The weapons range from flamethrowers to rocket launchers. The game is pure carnage once every player (which ranges from 2 to 10 as of writing) gets their hands on some serious firepower. There is a training mode, but in all honesty, if you have played any first-person shooter before you will feel at home with this.
I know that this is the kind of game that looks dumb and it is, but that is the point. At its core, Goat of Duty is a super fun, but shallow first-person shooter. It is the kind of game that is great to play with your buddies. Yelling, taunting and trash-talking each other is what this game is all about. If you want a fun FPS, take a closer look at this.
