The Game Review
La-Mulana 2 includes the ancient ruins as the setting for the platformer included with mysteries and puzzles along the way. The player must solve in order to unlock the secrets to the ancient land as the end goal objective. Throughout the journey, you will find a multitude of items to help fight enemies known as Guardians and get past troublesome areas.
The game’s protagonist, Lumisa Kosugi, takes on the call for adventure as the daughter of the fist game’s protagonist. As the players, use her skills and items such as the stone tablets and messages to solve the previously mentioned riddles and puzzles that lie ahead. The mystery at the end is well worth the play as the story continues the vague background of our protagonist. One of the quirky things about the game is that it features no tutorial and has players jump in immediately into the action.
To be fair though, the game doesn’t rush you and can played played at your own pace depending on the level of difficulty the player wants to take on first. The game, despite being a platformer, uses its puzzle thematic very well as certain changes in the background or Guardians are all the answers players will need to figure out what is going on. It’s as if brain teaser meets story meets platformer. A unique game to appreciate in the old school setting.
For some technical detail provided by the developer regarding its retro-style game, first, the scale of the game consists about an estimated 20 to 30 hours which ensures this isn’t just a run of the mill low graphics game with the excuse of being old school style.
The game also ensures its replayability factor due to its nonlinear story. Especially for the original owners of the first game, the developers ensure a much better and thrilling experience with screen support updates as well as new technical features that come along with weapons and items. The game is a definite gem that has been fully optimized for current day controls in a smooth manner.
