The company behind the game, Hi-Rez Studios, is also known for such titles as the MOBA Smite, Agenda, the mobile platformer Jetpack Fighter and the combination of turn-based strategy and a card game called Hand of the Gods. Paladins was released September 16, 2016, and is available on PCs with Windows and macOS systems, as well as on PS4 and Xbox One consoles.
How to Download Paladins
Paladins is available for download completely free on Steam, in the Windows store and in the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 stores.
The Game Plot
Despite the fact that Paladins is a strictly multiplayer title, the creators of the game have made sure to prepare an appropriate story around the game. At the beginning of the game, you learn a little about the universe and the laws that govern the world of Paladins. You find out that it is the ubiquitous magic that drives everything – starting from vehicles and machines, and ending with guns. Each of the heroes has its own story that interconnects with those of the other heroes. This creates an interesting network of dependencies between characters, which resembles those known from the game League of Legends. However, the plot is not the essence of the Paladins game. Here we’re talking about the quick multiplayer battles in which a team wants to succeed must effectively eliminate the enemies with magical rifles, pistols, and rifles.
The Game Mechanics and the Gameplay
Before starting the game, you must choose the character with which you will fight. The choice is rich, the game gives you the opportunity to play dozens of heroes, each of them gifted to have unique abilities. The heroes are divided into four classes. They are respectively: Front Line, Damage, Support, and Flank. Each character, in addition to the basic attack, has also four special abilities, the use of which is limited by the time needed for their renewal. After selecting the hero, you move on to the battlefield. The fights are very fast and dynamic, and thanks to the good balance they are a lot of fun. The basic game mode is Siege, in which you fight for the control of specific points on the map. The others are:
- Onslaught (Team Death Match and King of the Hill hybrid),
- Payload (where the attacking team must bring the treasure to a certain point),
- and Team Deathmatch.
The Graphics in Paladins
Stylistically and mechanically Paladins are very similar to Overwatch. However, despite this, Paladins is a fresh touch on the subject in several ways – it has a few interesting mechanics, for example, a card selection system that strengthens your character. The graphics in the game and the arrangement of the maps is futuristic, and among the characters, you can easily find those that refer to pop culture. It is worth noting that the game is still in the beta phase (early access) and is constantly updated by its creators.
