Saints Row: The Third Remastered

Sometimes a game will come out and make me feel really old! Saints Row: The Third Remastered was originally released around 10 years ago and that does make me feel well and truly old! Anyway, this was a huge release at the time and as I played the game to death on the Xbox 360, I was excited to see what they had done with the game after a decade.

The Game Review

One of the things that I have always enjoyed about this series has been the crazy plot. What we have here follows on from Saints Row II and it is the same story as was told in the original. Taking place five years after what went down in Saints Row 2 in the city of Steelport. You are playing as the leader of the gang and the city of Steelport is a freaking mess.

There is an evil crim organization that has taken over the city called The Syndicate and there is also this private military group called, STAG that is there to stop them. We also have these other gangs that want a piece of the city for themselves too and you are kind of in the middle of it all! The story is a lot of fun and does not take itself seriously at all which I love.

I know that some people look at these games as just a GTA rip off and I do get that. However, I would say that the Saints Row series is arguably one of the best GTA “rip-offs” around. This game in terms of the gameplay is not actually changing much, it runs a hell of a lot better, but that is about it.

It is the same 3rd person open-world action game that you know and love. This world is stacked with things for you to do. While taking down the Syndicate may be the “main” point of the game. You also have lots of other missions that you can do from the other gangs and there is also plenty of other side content that is a lot of fun to mess around with.

One thing that Saints Row: The Third Remastered and the original has that I loved is a fantastic progression system. In the game, you can earn cash and respect and you can use these to improve your situation. Cash is what you use to buy areas on the map, weapons, and their upgrades. Respect is pretty ty much the game’s XP system and you use this to get cool new abilities.

Pretty much all I have said here could be applied to the original Saints Row: The Third game so you are probably wondering what is new? Well, the most notable feature is the visuals. The game was already in HD, but this game looks noticeably better. It has much better use of lighting and the colors are far more vibrant and pop. Also, all of the DLC is included here too!

I thought this was a great game back then and I still do now. I do feel that Saints Row: The Third Remastered is more of a “definitive edition” than a full-on remaster. Yet, I still think this is well worth checking out. No matter if you played the game to death back as I did or if this is your first taste of the game.
