Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy

How can you not have the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy in your game collection? There is no way that Capcom could have known that their visual novel adventure game would have such mass appeal and sell millions of copies all over the world. This is available on pretty much anything that can play a game, but I have the PlayStation 4 version.

The Game Review

There are so many games in this series (11 by my count) that it could be hard for someone new to get into it. With the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy, you get the first three games in the series. You get Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Justice for All, and Trials and Tribulations. Three fantastic games, each one offering more interesting cases to crack and clients to save!

I vividly remember playing the heck out of the first game on my Nintendo DS during Christmas vacation at my parent’s house and becoming addicted to it. The Phoenix Wright games are described as visual novel games, but I think they are more than that. You play as the young hotshot attorney, trying to prove his client’s innocent in intense courtroom battles.

The gameplay is split into different phases. You need to collect evidence and figure out what happened and then you are in the courtroom, pleading your case. The latter two games would add a few tweaks here and there to the formula, but what I love about the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy is that these first three games have a nice and steady progression.

What makes these games so engaging is the whole style and presentation. There are some great supporting characters and the writing in all three games is just fantastic! In many ways, you will feel like you are in a TV show or that you are an actual attorney who is investigating these cases.

I know that explaining to someone what the Phoenix Wright games are is hard to do as it does not sound all that exciting. However, that first game hooks you in the first ten minutes and you will not want to stop until you have completed all of the cases. As there are three games in this collection, it is going to take you a while to see all it has to offer.

These are not just simple ports of the games from the Nintendo DS. These games have been remastered and the visuals are much sharper and the sound is much clearer. I would have a hard time going back and playing those original games. This is coming from a guy who loved those original DS games to death!

I played through the PlayStation 4 version of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy and it was great! However, I do feel that this is the kind of package that would be perfect for the Nintendo Switch so I am even tempted to get that version too! No matter if you are new to the series or a real pro in the courtroom, this is a game you need to have!
