The Space Opera

At the beginning of the game, the most difficult decision is which species to choose. We have the following rich collections of creatures to choose from:

  • Humanoid who look like humans,
  • Mammalian who look like different mammal species,
  • Reptilian – resemble reptiles, look alien,
  • Avian – the birds,
  • Arthropoid – the insects,
  • Molluscoid – snails, cephalopods and other slimy creatures,
  • Fungoid – very ugly mushrooms,
  • Plantoid – scary aggressive plants,
  • Machine – the robots,
  • and Crisis species – different beings only available at the endgame.

When making a choice you should take into account racial characteristics as well as racial ethics and morals. You can also create your own race.

Then comes the decision about the galaxy in which you will fight. In addition to its size, you can also determine what shape it should have. Once done, all there is left is the selection of the opponents and of the game difficulty and you’re ready to start the game. The beginner players, who are just starting their adventure with the game genre 4X (exploration, expansion, exploitation, and extermination), are advised to choose a small map and the normal difficulty.

At the beginning, your empire is very modest. You have just one Science ship and one Construction ship, one planet, and a small fleet. In order to quickly prepare for the conquest of the universe, you must chase your opponents who are at this moment more advanced. In the initial phase of the game, your priority should be to ensure the technological processes of obtaining minerals, resources, and energy. You should also start exploring the systems which are close and build the infrastructure of the initial location. Next, build new buildings, modernize your war fleet and discover new star systems. When you accumulate enough of the resources, it is worth constructing the next ships and sending them into space for exploration.

For the first few virtual years in the game, you shouldn’t be investing in the conquest of other colonies. Before you begin the conquest of other planets, you must first create a stable and strong economy. When you are successful, it’s time to face to get intelligence on your enemy, then adjust the fleet to suit your needs and finally to destroy your foe, preferably with one blow.

In addition to hostile nations, you can also meet those more friendly-minded. You can make non-aggression pacts with them and create alliances. However, no treaty or agreement will be honored forever. Sooner or later someone will break it. Be prepared.

Stellaris is the right choice for both beginners and the advanced players. In each case, the extensive in-game help system is very useful. The game has no campaign options, but the size of the galaxy and available expansion options allow for hours of exciting gameplay. The scale of the game is huge, which gives you a lot of replayability, with another species or in another galaxy. The illusion of vast living universe makes a lasting impression from the very beginning of our adventure.
