28 Years Later: The Bone Temple

Let me start by saying, what a freaking movie! 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple has the greatest scene that I saw in a movie theatre recently. I am surprised that they released this in January, as that is not usually a good month for movie theatres, and the box office for this has proven that to be true. I am a big fan of this series, and for me, this is the best movie in the series so far.

The Movie Review

Story and New Threats in 28 Years Later The Bone Temple

28 Years Later was a lot of fun, but the ending was something that I thought was super weird. I wonder if the ending put people off from going to the theatre to see this? Anyway, we follow on right from that, and we find out about a satanic clan called The Fingers, who are led by Sir Jimmy, who worships Satan and has some very dark views, due to the trauma he suffered as a kid…. And he is also a complete psycho.

After The Fingers save Spike at the end of the first movie, we find out just how strange this group is. Spike either dies or he fights one of the Fingers to the death, and he gets to take their place in the gang. It is a rather strange ritual that Sir Jimmy has, as surely, having more members of his Satanic Fingers cult would be better?

Well, critical thinking is not a strong point of Sir Jimmy! The Fingers come across a man and his pregnant wife, and we get to see just how sadistic Sir Jimmy can be. Of course, Spike is shocked by the depravity and extremity of Sir Jimmy, and he wants to escape, but he is not the only one of The Fingers who is looking for a way out.

Characters and Themes

In addition to the storyline with The Fingers and Spike, we also have Dr. Kelson, who is working on his Bone Temple as a tribute to those fallen to the rage virus. Samson, the alpha infected who keeps visiting Dr. Kelson, is starting to get back some of his memories and humanity. I thought this was done so well, and the two start to develop a bond, and we see Samson start to get more and more human, well, human as far as his personality goes. There is an epic scene with Samson taking on several infected.

Iconic Scene and Final Thoughts on 28 Years Later The Bone Temple

However, that is not the amazing scene I teased at the start of this movie. As you would expect, The Fingers, led by Sir Jimmy and Dr. Kelson, end up being thrust together, and that leads to a scene, and I am spoiling this here, but it is a scene where Kelson is rocking out to The Number of the Beast by Iron Maiden, and it is awesome. Off the top of my head, I cannot think of another scene in a movie that made me pop as much as this one did, granted I am a huge Iron Maiden fan, but even if you are not, this is still a very cool scene.

I think that 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is better paced than the previous movie, and I did not think it was quite as artsy fartsy as that last movie was. It felt more consistent with its tone, and while the Iron Maiden scene is crazy, it made sense in the movie. I had a great time with this, so much so that, as of writing, I have seen it twice! Oh, and the way the movie came to an end… let me just say, I need them to get to work on the third entry of this right now!

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple
