A Quiet Place Part II

Today I am excited to talk about what was one of my most anticipated movies of last year and this year, A Quiet Place Part II. Written and directed by John Krasinski, the movie did not disappoint and it was a fantastic follow-up to the first movie. Just a warning that there may be spoilers ahead so read with caution.

A Quiet Place Part II Review

The movie stars Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmons, Noah Jupe, and John Krasinski from the first movie. It also stars Cillian Murphy along with a small role for Djimon Houston which I was happy to see. It takes place right after the events of the first movie with Evelyn, Regan, Marcus, and the new baby having to leave their farm home after Lee is killed and find a new place to stay.

I have to say that the start of the movie is just fantastic and really what I wanted. We get to see day one of this invasion from these creatures and we get to see them ripping through an actual town. It is very well done and I loved the way that it answered some of the questions I had, but it also left a great deal to my own imagination.

The family in their quest to find shelter happens upon an abandoned steel mill where Emmet, someone they know from their past is hiding out. He is not too thrilled with them showing up and demands that they leave, even though Marcus is hurt. I thought the performance of Cillian Murphy was a real highlight of the movie.

Cillian Murphy really is great in his role of Emmet. He manages to be a good dad, a selfish loaner, a troubled soul, and a hero all in the space of like 90 minutes and none of it feels rushed. In the first movie, it was revealed that the deaf Regan thanks to her hearing aid and a microphone can cause the creatures extreme pain which leaves them vulnerable to attack.

This plays a big part in the plot of the movie as she wants to try and find a way to make this “power” that she has discovered something which can be used on a grander scale. I do not want to say too much more about the plot, but it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time.

Visually, A Quiet Place Part II is a great-looking movie. We get to see the creatures much better this time and even now a few days later, I am wracking my brain coming up with theories as to what these things are. I think that they did some good world-building here and I hope that we get a sequel to this.

If you enjoyed the first movie, you have to check this one out. I am not sure I could say what is better out of the two. I just see A Quiet Place Part II as a great follow-up that is offering more of the same. Be sure to check this one out if you liked the characters, plot, and world that the first movie set up.
