Man, where do I start when it comes to talking about Adventure Time? I have reviewed a few Cartoon Network shows over the last few weeks and I have talked about a “golden age” of Cartoon Network shows. Well, the numbers one and two when it comes to Cartoon Network shows for me are Regular Show and Adventure Time.

The Movie Review
Adventure Time is the kind of show that on paper sounds so dumb, but it works and you have to just roll with it. It is about Finn the Human and his brother, a talking magical dog called Jake and they live in the Land of Ooo and go on all kinds of crazy adventures. There is a fantastic cast of characters here.
Finn and Jake live in a treehouse and they also live with a computer called BMO who is my favorite character. You know, the more I think about it the more BMO might be one of my favorite cartoon characters of all time! I love the episodes where BMO takes centerstage such as BMO Noir or even him doing stuff like skateboarding or hitting Finn with a BMO chop and letting him know that if it were a real attack, he would be dead!
There is also Princess Bubblegum who Finn has a major crush on, Flame Princess, Cinnamon Bunn, Lumpy Space Princess, Marceline the Vampire Queen, Peppermint Butler, Lemmongrab, and a ton more. Adventure Time has a truly amazing cast of characters and you never know in any given episode which character will get a part in it.
One name that was missing from my shortlist of characters was Ice King and that is for a very good reason. Ice King might be one of the best developed Cartoon Characters of all time and he deserved his very own mention. Ice King pretty much starts off as an antagonist, but he eventually becomes a kind of friend to Finn and Jake and his backstory is quite tragic.
Adventure Time is one of those shows that is so good if you asked me to rattle off a top five episodes I could do it, but then I would think about it some more and want to change my mind as there are so many great episodes. There are so many classic episodes to this show and each episode for the most part is its own thing. There is some deep lore here and some stuff that progresses throughout the series.
They even did a few specials after the series had ended. This was a show that I watched with my son when he was younger and it is a show that even now he is older, we will still fire up a few episodes every now and again. I honestly think that like The Simpsons, Adventure Time is timeless and something that can be enjoyed by people of all ages.
I also love the whole style of the show, it is one of the more interesting Cartoon Network shows. The post-apocalyptic land of Ooo lets them do whatever they want with characters and locations and the imagination on display here is just stunning. The voice cast is epic too and there are even some very catching songs. Even now, my son and I will randomly drop quotes from the show a few times a week. If I do not notice he is there or vice versa, you better believe a BMO chop is getting nailed!
There is no way that I could not give Adventure Time 10/10 in every category. It is one of the greatest animated shows of all time. While I usually say that this is number 2 and Regular Show is number 1, truth is it is more like one is 1A and the other is 1B. You can get the complete series on Blu-Ray and DVD and I highly recommend you add it to your collection.
