You know, I was today’s years old when I found out that 2025’s Anaconda was the sixth movie in the Anaconda series! I saw the first Anaconda as a teenager in the 90s, and I loved it. It had an awesome cast, was campy as hell, and it was just a lot of fun. I recently watched it again, and I still thought that it was a fun time. No one is ever going to say that the 1997 Anaconda is an amazing movie, but you can have a good time watching it.
Where to Watch Anaconda
Anaconda was released on December 25, 2025. You can stream the film from a digital platform such as Amazon Prime Video.
The Movie Review
Looking Back at the Anaconda Sequels and Spin-Offs
I was aware that there was a sequel, the straight-to-DVD movie, Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid, which was released in 2004, and is straight up bad, not even so bad it is good. I did, though, really enjoy the crossover movie, Lake Placid vs Anaconda, which most certainly is a so bad it is good kind of movie and is a really fun time. Between Blood Orchid and Lake Placid vs Anaconda, there were another couple of straight-to-DVD/Streaming Anaconda sequels I had no idea existed.
A Clever Reboot
Ok, so enough of our walk down memory lane. Let us talk about this very creative Anaconda reboot. This is a pretty clever way to reboot a movie, as in the movie universe, the 1997 movie Anaconda exists. Think of it as kind of the same way that the Blair Witch Project sequel did things, only this movie is way, way better than that!
The Cast: Comedy Royalty in a Creature Feature
We have a great cast of main characters here. Jack Black plays Doug, Paul Rudd plays Griff, Steve Zahn plays Kenny, and Thandie Newton plays Ana; that is our cast. It is an awesome cast, and this is one of those movies where you can clearly tell that they were having a fantastic time making this movie. The press tour for this has been a blast to see, especially when Paul Rudd and Jack Black were together.
A Movie Within a Movie… With a Real Anaconda!
When they were teenagers, these kids loved Anaconda, and now that they are older, they want to bring their favorite movie back with a reboot! They do not have much money, but Doug is a wedding videographer, and they made movies when they were kids, so they are pretty sure that, despite the tight budget, they can make this movie a reality.
Chaos on Set: The Real Anaconda Strikes
Things get out of hand, though. You see, there is an actual, real-life giant anaconda that is stalking them as they are trying to make their movie. The premise here is a lot of fun, but I have a major problem with this movie, and that is, I have already seen it. I do not mean the original Anaconda that our crew is trying to make here; I am talking about the trailer. This is a trailer that, honestly, shows you exactly what the entire movie is!
Trailer Troubles and Wasted Potential
Sure, there may be a couple of surprises, but there is honestly nothing here that is going to blow your mind. I think, had I just known what the premise of this movie was, and I had not seen the trailer, I would have had way more fun with this. It is not a bad movie, but I feel that the very talented and likable cast carries this way further than it probably deserves to go. This is one of those movies that I will watch again, as I wonder if, in the comfort of my own home, with a giant Cherry Pepsi Max and a bunch of snacks, it will click with me more, as I do think it has the potential to.
