Amazon Prime Video

There are so many streaming services these days that I feel like I pay as much now as when I had Sky TV! Anyway, today I am looking at the Amazon Prime Video service and sharing my thoughts on it. I currently use this app on my LG Smart TV, an Amazon Fire Stick, and my Kindle Fire HD 10, so it is an app I am very familiar with.

How to Download Amazon Prime Video

You can download the app from a number of digital stores. Click on the Download button at the end of this review and make your choice.

The Program Review

Like most other streaming services, Amazon Prime Video has a great selection of its own original content. My personal favorite Amazon Prime Original show from the service so far is The Boys. They have a great selection of their own funded shows as well as shows like Star Girl which they have taken from elsewhere but made their own.

As far as the TV shows go, Amazon Prime Video does have a great selection of them, pretty much every genre is covered here. As well as TV shows, Amazon Prime Video also has plenty of original movies as well. There is a great selection here and as well as the stuff you can watch as part of your Prime subscription, they do also allow you to buy and rent other movies.

For example, when the last Mortal Kombat movie was released, it was also released on Amazon Prime Video as a premium offering and I was able to rent it. This is actually something I really like for new movies that you want to see but may not want to go to the theatre to check out.

One thing that Amazon does that I really like is the offer of the 4K UHD content at no extra charge. A while back they had Jurassic Park on there and they had the HD version and the 4K version, both were available as part of my Prime subscription. Netflix on the other hand would have had that 4K version behind their more expensive subscription.

The video and sound quality are great and I have had no issues at all. Like Netflix, you will find that shows and movies come and go. However, there is always a stacked amount of content for you to watch. They also offer live sporting events too such as football and tennis and the quality there is fantastic.

As great as the content and the quality, not to mention the price of Amazon Prime Video is, I do have a couple of issues. The UI is not great. On Netflix, if you go to the horror section, they tend to change the order the movies are listed in which keeps things fresh, I like this. On Amazon Prime Video the movies are always listed in the exact same order.

It sucks when you spend ages looking for something to watch, it sucks, even more, when you feel like you are scrolling through the same list over and over again. Also, the way they organize things can be annoying. If you were to watch a show on Netflix, American Horror Story, for example, you click it, and then all the seasons are there.

This does happen on Amazon Prime Video too, but sometimes seasons are listed on their own. For example, a show I love is Supernatural, but rather than just showing me season one, season two always pops up. The way you move between seasons and episodes in a show is not as user-friendly as Netflix in my opinion.

Even with the couple of UI issues that I have, Amazon Prime Video is a great service. The way I look at it, Amazon Prime, in general, is amazing value for money and Prime Video is just an added bonus! There is more than enough content, both exclusive and stuff from other studios to make this worth paying for in my opinion.
