A couple of years ago (I think) I talked about my love for the anime, Attack on Titan. I came to the series late, but I ended up binge-watching it, loving it, and becoming a big fan. I have watched the series through a couple of times and when I heard about Attack on Titan the Movie: The Last Attack, I was very excited to check it out. Even if my local theatre did not play it and I had to travel a couple of towns over to see it!

The Movie Review
The thing with this movie is that it is not really a movie. This is the last couple of episodes of the Attack on Titan anime stitched together with an extra bit at the end to make a movie. This is not for those who are not already fans of the series. There are some animes like My Hero Academia, Dragon Ball and Demon Slayer that have movies which are great for the fans, but can also be enjoyed by people experiencing those franchises for the first time.
A Movie for Hardcore Fans
I do not feel that is the case at all with Attack on Titan the Movie: The Last Attack. Attack on Titan is such a weird show that has lore that demands you pay attention. I am sure die hard fans who were watching as the series aired, especially as we get to seasons 3 and 4 were wondering what the heck was happening and where it was all going. I could only imagine what someone with no experience of Attack on Titan would think if they just randomly decided to watch this movie.
This is the culmination of the story as Mikassa brings the misery of Eren who comes very close to ending humanity to an end, taking out around 80 percent of the population before he is put down. Man, Eren was such a great character and I get that some people do not like the way it all ended for him, but I legit think he is one of the greatest anime characters of all time. The characters are what really make Attack on Titan.
Action, Emotion, and a True Send-off
When you hear that the series is about humanity fighting giant skinless beings it sounds like it would be just all out action. Do not get me wrong, Attack on Titan the Movie: The Last Attack and the series in general have epic action scenes. However, it is far more than that, it tells a great story, a story that does demand you pay attention, but if you do, there is no way you are not getting engrossed in this. As a fan, I feel that this is a great send off for the series, but it also leaves things open for potential spin-offs or maybe even some kind of reimagining.
Visual and Audio Enhancements in the Movie
While I said that they took the last two episodes of the series to make Attack on Titan the Movie: The Last Attack. They did make the sound a bit better and there are some color differences during some of the scenes as well. Also, there is a bit right at the very end that was made for this movie and you can clearly tell that it was as it looks so much brighter and better than the other stuff.
Final Thoughts on Attack on Titan the Movie: The Last Attack
This felt like a true love letter for the fans. I went to see this on my own and I loaded up on snacks and I had such a great experience bringing this amazing series to a close. If you are a fan, this is 10000 percent worth the effort of going to see it in a theatre if it is still on in your area as you read this. I enjoyed it so much, that I got straight on my phone to see if there was any word on it getting a 4K release, which as of writing there is not. Yet, no matter if it is just Blu-Ray, this is one I will be picking up the day it is released.
