I do not think that I have ever been more excited and nervous at the same time for a movie than I was with Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. I love Beetlejuice, it is a top 20 movie of all time for me and a movie that I watch every year, sometimes more than once. It is a movie that never gets old, proved by the fact that I have seen it 167 times and it just keeps getting funnier…. If you get that we can be friends.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice: Excitement and Nostalgia Combine in this Sequel – The Movie Review
All the signs were there that this was going to be great, they got Tim Burton, Michael Keaton, Winona Rider, and Catherine O’Hara back and the addition of Jenna Ortega could not have been any more perfect. Let me start by saying that this movie did not disappoint, I was entertained from start to end and I honestly cannot see any way that you could have done a Beetlejuice sequel any better than what this great crew did.
Modern-Day Twist on Beetlejuice
The movie takes place in the modern day and Lydia Deetz is all grown up and has her own spooky ghost hunter kind of show. Lydia is still haunted by what happened with Beetlejuice, seeing him at random and she has the ability to see ghosts who communicate with her. On the surface, it looks like Lydia has it all!
Her private life though is not great. Lydia has a teenage daughter called Astrid whom she is not on great terms with. Astrid does not understand why her mother cannot speak to her father who passed away. As well as the stuff with Astrid, her father, Charles has passed away and she is summoned by her stepmom, Delia who is now an established artist.
Clever Writing and New Characters
I think the way they got around the passing of Jeffery Jones was very clever in this movie, Charles is in the movie, and the way they do it is so much fun. Also, Lydia has this weird relationship with a guy who is clearly taking advantage of her. Things are not all great for Beetlejuice either! Beetlejuice has been pining after Lydia all these years and he now runs a company where he scares the living for other ghosts, but his ex-wife is back in town and she is after him.
Beetlejuice to the Rescue
Something happens that means Lydia has to go to Beetlejuice for help in order to save Astrid. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is just a super fun movie from the start all the way to the end. Michael Keaton has not missed a beat as the ghost with the most and he is just as entertaining here as he was back in the 80s. The rest of the returning cast are also great and you can see how their characters have grown.
Missing Cast and Final Thoughts
Before the movie came out, I was a bit disappointed that they could not get Geena Davis and Alex Baldwin back, but they explained this really well and moved on from it right away so it is not hanging over the movie. To be honest, with the story that they told here I am not even sure if Barbara and Adam would have been an extra piece that the story did not actually need.
I had a great time watching Beetlejuice Beetlejuice! This is a prime example of how you do a sequel 30 years later in the right way. I hope that the jokes Tim Burton made about not doing a third one are not true as I would love to see another movie. Plus with the title they kind of have to do Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice right? While I still prefer the original movie, this one here is very close to it, probably way closer than I ever thought it had a shot at being!
