Black Adam

As a huge fan of The Rock and DC Comics, Back Adam was one of my most anticipated movies of the year. I am happy to say that Black Adam more than lived up to my expectations and it was one of the most fun movie theatre experiences I have had so far this year.

The Movie Review

It is no secret that this was a real passion project of The Rock and the fact that he was able to get this over the finishing line and into theatres is awesome. As Black Adam, he is such a badass, while I grew up thinking of Black Adam as more of a villain than this anti-hero, they are pushing him as, he walks that fine line really well.

I do not want to go into spoiler territory here, but basically what you see in the trailer is what you get as far as the plot of Black Adam goes. A woman is being pursued by a shadowy organization that is looking for the Crown of Sabbac. She awakens Black Adam who has been asleep for generations.

Once he has awoken, the Kahndaq that he remembered is gone and this modern world is very strange to him. While he is out for vengeance and filled with rage, Black Adam develops a liking for a teenager called, Amon, the son of the woman who awoken him. Amanda Waller (who seems to be the DC Universes Nick Fury) calls in The Justice Society to try and put a stop to Black Adam and prevent him from causing more devastation.

The Justice Society is pretty awesome. Led by Hawkman who is joined by Dr. Fate and two newbies in Atom Smasher and Cyclone. They make a great team and I like how we get an old friendship with Hawkman and Dr. Fate as well as a bit of a romance/friendship kind of thing with Atom Smasher and Cyclone as well. Due to the quick pace the movie moves at, these characters do not get a ton of time to develop, but I still liked them all.

What I think the movie does well is displaying the inner turmoil that lies within Black Adam. He is told that he can be a hero and a savior to people, but he has his doubts and does not feel like he can be a hero. It adds way more depth to the character than I think people will go into the movie expecting.

The action scenes are awesome and the special effects are great for the most part. There is a lot of destruction in this movie and the fight scenes are a ton of fun. I love the setting of Kahndaq and it comes close to Aquaman in terms of being the best-looking DC movie location we have seen so far.

If you want to see a badass action movie with one of the coolest protagonists you will see on the big screen this year, Black Adam is well worth going to see! This is just a super fun movie that is entertaining from start to end and it features one of the best credits scenes of any DC movie to date. I just hope that Warner Bros can keep their interfering and meddling out of this as the future of the DC Universe has the potential to be very awesome!
