BlacKkKlansman is a downloadable biographical drama film produced by Monkeypaw Productions, Blumhouse Productions, Legendary Entertainment, Perfect World Pictures, and 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks. Released on 10th August 2018, the film is based on a true story which focuses on an African-American detective named Ron Stallworth.
It is directed by Spike Lee and features a cast consisting of Adam Driver (he’s Kylo Ren in Star Wars), John David Washington, Topher Grace (Getty in Interstellar), and Laura Harrier (Liz Allan from Spider-Man: Homecoming).

The Plot
BlacKkKlansman focuses on the first African-American officer who is hired to work in the Colorado Springs Police department. Initially having been employed to work in the records room, Stallworth eventually rises up in ranking by being assigned to work as a detective.
He is ordered to infiltrate a rally of a national civil rights leader named Kwame Ture. There, he meets a woman named Patrice who, later on, can be seen being groped by a white racist officer.
After the rally comes to a close, Stallworth is shifted back to the intelligence department where he learns about the existence of the Ku Klux Klan. To infiltrate the Klan, Stallworth hires a white Jew named Flip Zimmerman to act as a double.
Zimmerman, posing as Stallworth, meets numerous Klan members including Walter, Felix Kendrickson, and Ivanhoe. Kendrickson, suspicious of Zimmerman’s identity, has him take a lie detector test. Just as the test is about to be conducted, Stallworth breaks a window, distracting Kendrickson enough to deviate from the issue at hand.
Soon, the grand wizard of the Klan, named David Duke, visits Zimmerman -pretending to Stallworth- in order to induct him into the brotherhood. At the same time, Kendrickson’s wife Connie leaves the ceremony to plant a bomb at Patrice’s house. Failing to plant it where it was planned, Connie hastily puts it inside Patrice’s mailbox only to have her husband, along with Ivanhoe killed later on by the explosion.
Connie is arrested as Stallworth is praised for his active participation in the whole event. The film ends with clips of the Charlottesville Rally in 2017 and President Donald Trump’s statement regarding the matter. The sequence fades with the American flag, upside down, as it turns to black and white.
The Message
BlacKkKlansman is a reminder as to what the United States of America stands for and how some individuals are maligning the struggles of the black population. Given the current political environment as well as the increase in racism in the society, the film gives a meaningful insight as to how the country itself is heading back to square one.
Spike Lee times the film to perfection by discussing some of the most sensitive topics in a humorous manner. The satire and irony are on point. Regardless, however, critics have claimed that the film has done nothing but exaggerate the events of 1970s.
The Bottom Line
Overall, BlacKkKlansman was highly praised by most of its audience. It managed to receive a whooping satisfaction rating of 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 365 reviews. Commercially, the film managed to earn $10.8 on its very first day, making it a success.
